If you have read this book thoroughly and have started following it so far, most of your job is done. All you need to do now is to engage in more and more specifically designed activities mentioned or suggested in this book, in order to get rid of whatever negative habits you may have, so that you may start achieving better things in life and at the same time, you may start improving and growing more as a person as well as a soul.

The essence of this book is to spread awareness about the fact that in order to achieve more and more in this life and to be better equipped for the coming lives as well as for the journey of your soul, there are three essentials which you must have. These three essentials are: strong desire to achieve, effort required to achieve and sufficient positive energy in your aura to achieve what you wish to achieve, where such positive energy can be gained by doing more good karmas, by engaging in company of positive people and by visiting positive places.

So if you wish to achieve bigger and bigger things in your life, you need to learn about these three essentials and you also need to master all three of these essentials. Keep reading and following this book again and again as it will keep raising alarms as and when you may develop a harmful negative habit and at the same time, this book will also keep guiding you how to get rid of that negative habit.

Only reading this book once, twice or any number of times is not sufficient on its own and you will need to follow this book practically, in order to get better and better results. I have already mentioned in this book that actions speak louder than words and hence, merely reading this book and getting motivated for some time is not going to do the trick for you. Instead you will need to engage in more and more positive activities as they are the only ones which can bring better and better things to you.

The negative habits of being dishonest, selfish, unkind, uncaring or possessive beyond reasonable point, they all have their roots in the same problem which is the problem of paying so much attention to yourself and giving so much importance to yourself that you are unable to worry or care about other people and about their due share in the scheme of things around you or in the scheme of this universe when considered on a bigger level. Hence if you are suffering from anyone of these problems, most of the others will come complementary to you as these habits come in a bundle offer, so you ask for one and you get the other ones for free whether you want them or not.

As always, let’s first try to understand this problem from its root and in this case, too strong an attachment with yourself is the root cause of this problem as such attachment gives birth to a strong type of greed which wants to collect more and more and at the same time, it doesn’t want to release much or anything at all. The people suffering from this problem of being too selfish have a strong script written on their subconscious mind where this script says that more and more good things available in this world should come to them and in order to achieve them, even if they have to be dishonest or engage in unfair practices, it is fine and it is not a big issue or no issue at all.

Though some of you may think that being selfish and being dishonest are two different habits but this is not the case as these two habits are closely related. In fact, being too selfish is the root cause of all the problems mentioned above. For example, if a person is dishonest or cheating other people, what is the primary reason behind such cheating in most such cases? Well, the reason obviously is that this person wants to gain advantage or profit from other people where such profits are not the ones that he deserves in a fair way and hence he decides to engage in the practice of cheating.

Now try to look at the deepest levels and understand the fact that if this person was not too selfish, he would not have wanted to gain advantages by cheating others and accordingly, he would not have engaged in such practices. It is only the strong subconscious desire to gain more and more for himself, by hook or by crook, which strongly motivates him to engage in cheating. Since he does all this to please himself, he is certainly a selfish person and nothing else as a person who only thinks about his gain and his progress and tries to make it happen with any possible means whether such means are fair or foul, can only be a selfish person. On the other hand, a person who is not selfish; always thinks of achieving good things without causing a negative impact on others and he never wants to hurt other people in order to gain advantages from them.

Likewise, other problems like being uncaring, unkind or possessive beyond a reasonable point all have their roots in selfishness. All these habits are born due to one reason only: wanting more and more good things for yourself and not give out much. For example, when you are unkind to someone, in most cases, it is only because you know that to be kind, you will have to lose something or let go of something that you own or possess, if such help demands resources. On the other hand if such an act requires physical help or guidance, the first thing that comes to the mind of these people is “why should I help this person when there is nothing in it for me?“ As you can see, in the first case, this person is not helping others in order to save his possessions whereas in the second case, he is not willing to help as he doesn’t see any gains for himself.

Hence both situations lead to the same conclusion that this person is selfish, because he doesn’t want to let go of even smallest of the things that he owns to help others and he doesn’t want to help anyone until such help brings him material gains. The same logic goes for being uncaring, as in order to care for someone, you will need to be selfless in most cases and you will need to think beyond your personal gains, which is something that a selfish person may never do. Likewise in case of being too possessive, it is only a selfish person who doesn’t want to let go of any of his possessions whether such a possession is a thing or a person. When you look at the bigger picture, a person who is willing to negatively affect the lives of others or affect the scheme of things in the universe in a negative way, merely to gain advantages for himself, doesn’t have any respect for the well being of other people and species and all he cares about is himself and his profits, is definitely selfish because he is thinking about himself only and no one or nothing else.

Each of us may have to act selfish, dishonest, uncaring, unkind or possessive sometimes as such acts may be necessary according to the demand of a situation and even though it may not be right, it is acceptable in such cases. It should be understood that in the context of this topic, only those people should be considered selfish, who keep engaging in such negative practices repeatedly and intentionally. These people choose the path of dishonesty even when honesty can get them good things though in less amounts, which is exactly what they don’t want and which is exactly what makes them too selfish. Hence being selfish at times is fine as it may be needed to survive in this material world but being too selfish and causing troubles for others is a big problem as it can not only cause troubles for you in the short run, but it can also reduce your chances of achieving anything good later on in life or even in the coming lives.

The negative habits mentioned above are the ones which are capable of adding more and more negative energy to your aura as most practices done through these negative habits are classified as bad karmas. Hence you keep adding more and more negative energy to your aura by engaging in increasing number of bad karmas and as you know by now, whether it is good karma or bad karma that you are engaging in, you will have to face the fruit of such karmas sooner or later. As you engage in more and more bad karmas, your aura becomes more and more negative and accordingly, you start lacking one of the three essential factors required for success in life. This factor is called luck, chance or opportunity in practical language and in technical language; it is called a positive aura which is something you would never want to lack, if you wish to achieve more and more good things in your life.

Therefore, if you are suffering from this negative habit of being too selfish, it is the time that you get out of it and hence you should start making conscious efforts to get rid of this habit as it is not only capable of causing problems for you in your present and future lives but it can also make you suffer a complete downgrade of level among species. If such a thing happens, you are in real trouble because once your level is downgraded; there is no easy or early comeback possible and whether you believe it or not, you lose thousands of valuable years in which you could have evolved far more, developed tremendously and even accomplished many great things. So once again, if you are suffering from this problem, start dealing with it now as being even a little late, can prove too late in this case.

Looking at some activities which can help you get rid of this problem of being too selfish at the very first level, you should start engaging in more and more number of small but conscious acts of kindness or conscious acts of letting go and releasing your possessions. For best results, start easy and small, and then increase it as otherwise, you may end up worsening your problem rather than curing it. For example, if donating USD 5 to a needy person or organization is just about fine with you, then you should start this practice from here only, instead of making a donation of USD 500 straight away in a bout of motivation as doing the latter is very likely to bring many regrets later on and you may choose to disengage from this whole practice. At the same time, you may start finding ways to recover your lost money by some means and such means as you know, are likely to be foul, considering your nature at this time and since those means are foul, they will only increase your troubles instead of decreasing them.

Therefore, you should always start with small acts of kindness and with releasing small amounts of your possessions as the attachment of your ego as well as that of your subconscious mind with all your possessions is very high at this time and accordingly, your subconscious mind will resist any attempt at letting go of any of these possessions. Once again, the smaller the possession, the less is the resistance; the bigger the possession, the more the resistance. For this reason, you should start engaging in such activities from a small scale at your first level. Whenever you start feeling comfortable with releasing a particular amount of your possessions, increase the level of difficulty and start engaging in acts of kindness which demand more of your possessions or efforts.

It should be noted that the term ‘Act of kindness’ doesn’t necessarily mean giving out money and things that you have earned and it simply means offering any type of help even if it is a physical help or support of any type. It is recommended that people who are suffering from this problem and who at the same time have many possessions or are financially sound, they should always donate money or other possessions to the needy people at the first level though they can offer physical help also at the same time. On the other hand, the people suffering from this problem who don’t have many possessions or financial resources should start offering more and more physical as well as moral support to needy people or organizations.

As you keep doing this, a stage will come when your subconscious mind starts understanding your new request which says that, you are now comfortable with releasing some of your possessions and willing to help more and more people without any benefit for yourself. When this message starts reaching your subconscious mind again and again with each one of your conscious acts of kindness, your subconscious mind will start putting less amount of resistance. Accordingly, you will start finding it easier to engage in more and more such acts and this is where your problem starts getting cured. As you keep engaging in acts of kindness, you start feeling more and more relieved and finally, a day will come when you are completely cured or relieved to the maximum extent.

It is worth mentioning that as your primary problem of being too selfish starts going away, all the other problems such as being unkind, being uncaring, being dishonest and being too possessive will also start going away. This is because, as your subconscious mind registers this new script saying that you want to release your possessions in order to help other people or species, your subconscious mind will start putting up resistance when you choose or try to do the opposite.

This means, when you want to be dishonest, uncaring, possessive or unkind, your subconscious mind will resist you because engaging in such activities will require you to attach more and more possessions to yourself, whereas your subconscious mind has a strong script saying, ‘Don’t have many possessions and instead start releasing them’. Accordingly, it starts sending positive fears to you in form of inner voices which will tell you to disengage from such acts of being selfish.

So all you have to do is to write this specific script of being unselfish on your subconscious mind with repeated and conscious efforts and then, your subconscious mind will start ensuring that you don’t engage in acts of selfishness and instead, it will start motivating you to engage in more and more selfless acts. Selfless acts are done for the benefit of other people, where you don’t work for any direct benefit or profit for yourself and this is exactly what we want to accomplish in order to get rid of this problem of being too selfish.

Before ending this chapter, let me ask you this simple question. Would you bother to engage in more and more negative karmas by cheating or hurting other people in order to gain more and more rewards or possessions for you, when you already know that you are going to give away these possessions through acts of kindness? The answer is no as you are facing big loss in this case, since you gain more and more negative energy to have these possessions and these possessions are even then not supposed to be with you for long. What is then the point of engaging in such acts of cheating or dishonesty?

Understand this fact that being kind requires you to be selfless and when the habit of being selfless comes to you, the habit of being too selfish has to leave you as like in the case of other habits lying exactly opposite to each other, the habit of being selfless and the habit of being selfish can’t stay together. So, all you have to do is to invite the habit of being selfless through conscious efforts and then register this with your subconscious mind. As the habit of being selfless comes to you, the habit of being too selfish has no choice but to leave you.

Always remember that when you start to help more and more people and you start bringing various types of relieves to them, you develop a subconscious tendency of making people happy and relieved. Once this tendency becomes strong, it becomes very difficult for you to hurt people and make them suffer because you now have a habit of making them happy and not a habit of making them sad.

Your subconscious mind can be your best friend and it can also be your worst enemy. Even though it is the strongest friend as well as the strongest enemy that you can ever get, it is graceful enough not only to always give you this choice; but also to allow you to change your choice anytime, even though that may need much effort and time. So make your choices wisely and make the best use of your subconscious mind and its abilities, if you want to achieve more and more in your life and if you want to develop more and more as a person and as a soul.

You may be wondering after reading the title of this topic, as we have just finished discussing the fact that if you suffer from excessive mental energy, you should avoid learning more and be selective in learning. But as I said, learning is one of the best habits a person can cultivate. It is of great importance and even though it may not be suitable for some of us, it is a must have virtue for most of us.

It is only through teaching and learning that human beings can pass on knowledge, from one generation to the next generation and accordingly, each generation is able to carry on from where the previous generation left. How would it be, if none of the great inventors of this world who have invented marvelous things for us, passed on this knowledge to other people and then to the next generation? If such was the case, each generation would have been trying to invent or discover the same things which were already discovered by previous generations. The reason we don’t have to go through such unnecessary pain and effort is that all this knowledge is passed on to the next generations through the process of teaching and learning.

Learning is one of the most important things we need in order to keep growing and to develop our personalities and for this reason, everyone should keep learning as much as they can, except those who suffer from excessive mental energy as they should engage in selective learning until they find a solution for the release of such extra mental energy. To stop learning is to simply stop growing and to stop growing is to simply stop living. There is no use of human life if we are just getting older but not growing at all and for this reason, everyone must keep learning as knowledge is one of the best virtues one can have.

Some people who suffer from a specific type of negative energy restrain themselves from learning much or learning at all. As a result, they lack the finish and cutting edge that a learned person has and so they start lagging behind in many spheres of life. This is because the world is getting smarter with each passing day and smartness is directly proportional to knowledge, which means that the more you know, the smarter you are. When it comes to knowing more and more, it is only through learning that you can do so and become smarter and smarter. On the other hand, if you have a habit of not learning much, many people around you or sometimes even you start finding yourself lagging far behind most people, which reduces your chances of achieving good and big things in your life, to a great extent.

Therefore if you have the negative habit of not learning much or not learning at all, it is the time to get rid of it. Start learning more and more things and concepts because without knowledge, you don’t stand a chance of achieving anything big in this world, in most cases. So start learning new things and start gaining more and more knowledge as with more knowledge, you can improve your chances of success in today’s smart world and at the same time, you can become better in many spheres of your life.

It is important to note that when you start learning new things and concepts, it is not compulsory to learn heavy or difficult topics which you may think are the only things qualifying for being learned. This is absolutely not true and each and every type of knowledge is useful and so you should always learn things you find yourself comfortable with. Never forget this golden rule – you will always give your best in the spheres where you are most comfortable and accordingly you should start learning those topics only, which interest you the most.

Some people think that one type of learning is better than the other type of learning but it is not always the case. Though some specific professions may be more rewarding in terms of money and fame, each type of knowledge has its own importance at its due place and each one of them is equally important to maintain a healthy balance of life on earth. For example, a person having vast knowledge in the field of IT generally earns more than a person who is a fitness trainer and who teaches others to maintain optimum health to perform at their peak in most spheres of their lives, and to enjoy their life in its real sense.

Even though the status of this IT person may seem bigger to some people, when you are in dire need of a fitness trainer, no one else will do and an IT professional may be the last one you want to consult as you know that many IT professionals themselves may not be maintaining good health. No offence is meant to anyone, but it is simply to point out the fact that people who are engaged in professions demanding high academic qualifications and mental work, until they consciously engage in one or the other form of fitness training, tend to be less physically fit compared to some other people whose jobs require more physical activity than mental ability.

Likewise when you need someone to teach you how to swim, you don’t want to consult a doctor or a lawyer as they are not the best choices for learning swimming even though some of them may be very good at swimming. The correct way is going to a swimming coach instead of going to a doctor or a lawyer. Even though I can quote hundred other examples, I think the point I want to convey has already been conveyed properly. Hence I will stop quoting more examples and get back to the fact that when you start learning, don’t just start learning anything that comes your way or anything that the people around you recommend you to learn. Simply keep trying topic after topic and you will find that there are some topics which your mind grasps faster and better, in comparison with some other topics that you may find difficult to understand. These most comfortable topics are the ones that you are supposed to learn and develop your ability in.

Keep gaining more and more knowledge and soon, you will start feeling that you are getting smarter and smarter and at the same time, you are gaining more and more confidence which is due to the reason that the other name of knowledge is confidence. This is why it has been said, the more you know the less you fear, because fear or confidence, only one of them can remain with you as they don’t like each other at all and therefore, when confidence comes, fear goes away.

At the first level of treating this problem, focus on learning more and more about your topics of interest and don’t bother about putting that knowledge into practice. As your knowledge about a particular topic keeps increasing and it goes beyond a certain point, people around you start noticing your expertise and they start coming to you when they need help on that topic. This is when you get a chance to put this knowledge to use and accordingly you may get a chance to earn money through this knowledge, by engaging in a profession which requires the application of this knowledge. All this will keep coming to you at the right time; without you having to bother much about how to use this knowledge, and all you have to do is to keep gaining more and more knowledge.

Learn this truth that the Sun doesn’t tell anyone that he is the Sun and that he delivers something of great value to all of us. His light alone is enough for everyone to notice and know that he is the Sun. Knowledge is just like light. When you have it beyond a certain point, you start shining like the Sun or like a star and whether or not you know or notice it, the people around you definitely notice it as they are now being continuously dazzled by this bright shining light of knowledge which is coming from you. This is when these people start approaching you whenever they need help on the topics you specialize in and this is when this knowledge starts earning you various types of rewards.

After you have won your battle with the problem of making excuses, let’s now move on to the next battle front where one more potential enemy is waiting to be conquered by you. This enemy is the one who can take control of our minds for a short duration of time and then make us say and do the worst type of things which we may regret later on and which can cause so much damage to us and sometimes this damage can be irreversible in nature. Yes, we are talking about the problem of too much anger. The habit of having too much anger is a problem which can spoil even the best of the things achieved by you and which at times, can make others ignore even the best qualities in you and leave you. Hence if you have this problem of excessive anger, you will need to get rid of it in order to make yourself a better person and in order to achieve more and more good things in your life and most importantly, in order to retain whatever good things or good people you have already achieved in your life. This is because the worst type of damage done by anger is that it can snatch even the most valuable and the dearest people or achievements from you.

It should be noted that a certain amount of anger or aggression is a must needed quality if we want to achieve big things in our lives and without anger or aggression; nothing great or even big can be achieved in most cases. Hence anger or aggression is not a bad thing in itself but not knowing how to channelize such anger or aggression is the problem. Even the problem of getting too angry is not the one which will stop you from achieving big or very big things in your life, though it has a strong tendency to take those things and especially people, away from you. For this reason, learning to control your anger becomes very important as you won’t want to let go of the things or people in which you have invested so much of your effort, time and care. In order to treat this problem of excessive anger, let’s try to find the root cause of this problem and then start dealing with it from that root itself.

Not all people are born equal in terms of their physical and mental compositions and accordingly there are some people who in comparison to an average person, are gifted with much more physical or mental energy, whether this energy is positive or negative. As the amount of energy running through their bodies or minds is much more than an average person, it is easy to understand that these people need more and more ways to find an exit for this energy or find more and more jobs to utilize this energy. By virtue of their past life karmas as well as by virtue of their present life karmas and efforts, some of these people find proper directions to channelize this energy and these are the people who are seen achieving big or very big things in various spheres of life as they have much more energy to perform and accordingly they have better chances of achieving more and more.

On the other hand, some of these people once again due to their past life karmas as well as their present life karmas and efforts; don’t get due chances or opportunities to put this energy to a constructive use. As a result, the unused amount of energy keeps increasing with time and when this energy is unable to be contained anymore, it comes out in the form of bursts of anger, just like a volcano pours out tons and tons of lava which has been building inside it for a long time and which is unable to be contained now, by this volcano. Hence this problem of excessive anger comes from having more physical or mental energy than an average person and then not finding proper ways to channelize this excessive energy.

The problem of excessive anger is further divided into two categories and these classifications depend on whether you are suffering from excessive physical energy or from excessive mental energy. Even though the resultant is excessive anger in both the cases, but the expression of this anger is different depending on whether such anger has been caused by excessive physical energy or by excessive mental energy.  If you are confused how these different energies should be identified, let me help you with this and tell you how to identify these two different types of energies.

Pay attention to this fact that the people getting angry due to excessive physical energy often express their anger in the form of physical activities like fighting with other people, throwing things around, hitting other people or things or even hitting themselves whereas the people getting angry due to excessive mental energy often express their anger in the form of too many arguments, heated arguments, verbal fights, emotional dramas and all other such type of violent or aggressive activities which exist on mental plane and which don’t contain physical violence, in most cases.

Hence in order to treat this problem effectively, you will need to learn ways to channelize this energy in proper direction and at the same time you will need to limit your engagement in certain specific types of activities which may increase this problem as such activities are likely to bring more energy to your body or they can act as a catalyst and provoke your energy to come out in the form of anger.

To treat this problem in the most effective manner, you will first need to identify whether you are suffering from excessive physical energy or from excessive mental energy or from both of them and accordingly you will choose the activities which will help you get rid of this problem or reduce it as much as possible. For example, if you are suffering from excessive physical energy, find physical ways to release this energy and start engaging in them. Doing hard and demanding physical activities is one of the best ways to release this energy and reduce this problem. Therefore, you can choose to engage in activities like running, mountain climbing, cycling, playing football, playing tennis, swimming and many other physical activities which give you opportunities to release this physical energy. Care should be taken that you should only choose to engage in those physical activities which you find yourself the most comfortable with.

Make sure that you don’t engage in any type of physical activity which builds more and more muscle in your body. To be specific, people suffering from this problem should avoid doing much weight training as such training may increase the intensity of their problem. This is because, when you engage in weight training and you start building more and more muscle, more and more physical energy is stored in your body, in the form of this muscle that your body is gaining. As you are having more and more physical energy available now, you will need to find more and more ways to release this extra energy and since you are already suffering from excessive physical energy, inviting more physical energy to your body is exactly what you should not do.

Take a look at the other sports or physical activities suggested by me and you will find that almost in all of these activities, you don’t build much new muscle in your body and hence you don’t invite more energy in your body. Though you will certainly gain some muscle in each one of these activities but that muscle is nothing in comparison to the amount of muscle you gain when you engage in serious gym training. Gaining more and more muscle is likely to aggravate the problem in this case since muscle is nothing but energy and that is why you feel it flexing and active in your body since it is very difficult for energy to remain silent or inactive. Hence you should avoid doing gym training or any other such physical activities which can make you gain much muscle or so to say, which can bring in more and more energy to your body.

However, if you are a diehard fan of weight training and you feel very comfortable with the gym, you can simply mark some boundaries for your gym training which means that you should plan your gym training in a way that you don’t gain muscle beyond a certain point and that point should not be set to the level of a person who has biceps of 17 inches or even more. So keep that mark at a reasonable physical size.

Moving on to activities which  can help people suffering from excessive mental energy, start engaging in mental activities which help you release excessive mental energy and you will start feeling better and relaxed. For example, If you suffer from excessive mental energy, start engaging in activities like writing poetry, songs, articles or books; painting, singing, acting, dancing, giving advice to other people, motivating others, crossword puzzles or other puzzles, video games, computer games and other types of games which require mental effort and you will be able to release excess mental energy. Engage in a mental activity that you enjoy most as that will relax you sooner and help you get rid of the excessive energy at the earliest.

A strong word of caution is compulsory here. Since we are directly dealing with excess energy, our actions should be precise. Hence in order to effectively deal with excessive mental energy, don’t engage much in activities like reading many books, particularly the books which offer you more and more knowledge and instead stick to books on self development, comics or comedy writings, and light books. Don’t watch too much television, especially daily soaps which are full of drama and emotion and instead watch comedy and music shows, inspirational movies and similar stuff.

It may seem surprising how learning can be harmful for someone when it is projected as one of the best things in this world, but this fact strongly holds its grounds and here is how. The people suffering from excessive mental energy already have excessive amount of energy in their minds and they don’t have sufficient outlets for this energy. You should also understand that when it comes to the domain of your mind, mental energy is released each time you put a thought into words or each time you do something creative which requires mental energy. On the other hand, more and more mental energy comes to you when you are not releasing mental energy but gaining it through activities like learning, watching drama type shows and other such activities where no mental energy is going out of your mind and more mental energy is getting into your mind through these activities where you are not a transmitter but you are a receiver.

This causes the same type of problem as building more and more muscle causes in case of people suffering from excessive physical energy. By engaging in more and more mental activities which offer inward transfer of mental energy from various sources to your mind, you are gaining more and more mental energy through these activities and since you are already suffering from excessive mental energy, this extra energy is only going to increase your problems. Hence you should avoid engaging in such practices and instead you should start engaging in mental activities where the flow of energy is outwards which means you are releasing your mental energy and others are receiving it.

Always remember that there is a proper place for everything and too much of anything can be harmful for you, even though it may be one of the best things like learning. For this reason only, even fears can be used for positive results whereas positive things like learning can also cause harm. This is why I have mentioned again and again in this book that you should not try all those general guidelines available all around, and instead you should first find out what exactly works for you and then start doing it.

It is an interesting observation that among the people who argue a lot due to this problem of excessive energy, those people will certainly argue for a longer periods of time as well as argue more often, who have more knowledge regarding various spheres of life, nature, universe and all other such things, compared to the people who have less knowledge. This is due to the reason that with more and more learning comes more and more knowledge, and the more knowledge you have the more fuel you have to keep the fire burning, which in this case is the fire of arguments. Since you now have more knowledge, you are able to give more and more logics or examples in favor of your arguments and accordingly you tend to engage in more and more arguments as you know that your chances of winning such arguments are better.

Hence if you are suffering from this problem of excessive mental energy, you should engage in selective learning only, which means that you should learn only those things or topics which are either required for your job profile or for some other job, task or practice that you are doing. At the same time, you should engage in activities which require mental energy to be released from your end. As more and more of this energy is released, you start feeling relaxed.

So engage in selective learning only, until you have reached a point where you have sufficient number of outlets for the release of this excessive mental energy. This is when you can start learning again, with the condition that you will keep releasing this extra energy in one way or the other.

You may be surprised to know that most of the creative things you see in this world are created by the people having excessive mental energy though they are not suffering from it since they have found proper ways to release and use this increased amount of mental energy which they have been gifted with. So having extra physical or extra mental energy is basically a good thing if you find proper use for this extra energy whereas it can trouble you a lot if you don’t find ways to release it and put this energy to some constructive or creative purposes.

Some of you may wonder why should activities like dancing and watching TV programs like comedy shows or musical programs help the person suffering from excessive mental energy as dancing looks like a physical activity and TV shows are obviously sending more and more mental energy to us which is supposed to worsen this problem and not treat it. Well as far as dancing is concerned, even though it requires a lot of physical effort, but it is primarily a creative activity as you imagine and create new steps. Dancing demands much mental energy and so, you find a release of mental energy through it.

As far as some specific types of videos are concerned, comedy shows or comedy movies don’t send knowledge or argumentative energy into you as most of them don’t offer any logic. Most of you will agree that most comedy shows or movies are only good to laugh at and enjoy, and most of them don’t have any logic. All they do is make you laugh and this is what does the trick. Such energy sends a signal to your subconscious mind, saying that logic and reason are not everything and that you can be happy even without logic and reason. As this message is sent to your subconscious mind again and again, it starts telling you not to bother about the exact logic or reason all the time and sometimes, you should just enjoy what others say or do without bothering much about whether they are right or wrong, when seen through the eyes of logic and reasoning.

As you develop this tendency more and more, you tend to argue less and less with people since the primary reason for your argument with others is that they don’t have correct logic or that their logic is not as good as yours is. As you start caring less about logic and you tend to enjoy more even if there is little logic or no logic, your tendency to argue is reduced. Apart from this, the type of relaxation these comedy shows produce through laughter, such energy always helps balancing out some of your negative energy which is there in the form of excessive mental energy and accordingly these shows help you become better. This is why comedy shows or comedy movies are useful and sometimes even more useful than the shows or movies which offer us more and more knowledge where the latter may not be good if you suffer from excessive mental energy.

Musical programs, music videos or just plain music have similar effects on your mind. They tend to counteract negative energy, though they are not as effective as comedy shows are. Drama shows and daily soaps are the worst kind of activities one can engage in, as most of these drama shows are full of negativity – scheming, plotting, cheating and other negative activities. Accordingly, these shows send more and more negative energy to your mind which is already suffering from excessive mental energy and hence, your problem intensifies. Therefore you should stay away from such mental activities that send energy to your mind instead of taking energy out of your mind, particularly if these activities are sending negative energy to your mind, which is the last thing you want in this scenario.

As you start engaging in more and more activities demanding the release of more and more physical or mental energy depending on the type of excessive energy you may have, you will start seeing relief because as this extra energy finds constructive outlets, it stops bothering you. Once you have got rid of this problem, you are ready to move onto the next problem.

Have you ever wondered why are we able to pick a food item and put it into our mouth with great precision even when we are doing so in a room full of darkness? Habit, reflexes, practice or whatever you may call it, but what is the exact working mechanism behind all such theories? Well, the reason once again is your subconscious mind which helps you out in this case and the reason why your subconscious mind is able to do it is that through years and years of conscious efforts, you have successfully registered this fact with your subconscious mind that when you eat, this is the specific distance where you keep your plate and this is the exact distance of your mouth from your plate.

As your subconscious mind gets it perfectly right through your repeated efforts, you start taking your food from your plate and then put it into your mouth, all on the level of subconscious mind as your subconscious mind stats doing it for you, instead of your conscious mind having to put any effort. This is why most of us may observe that our food travels from our plates to our mouths, effortlessly or to be precise, without any conscious effort as all the effort is being made by the subconscious mind which is very powerful and which doesn’t need any light or any other such assistance, to do its job.

Have you ever wondered why it is so that through specific training on a specific type of keyboard, we are able to type faster, without looking down on the keyboard for different alphabets that we may wish to type? Though some of you may think that our fingers and other parts of our body have their own memory or something like it, the real answer once again is that through a series of conscious efforts, you register this request with your subconscious mind that when you start typing on a keyboard and let’s assume that it is a qwerty type of keyboard, the letter J lies under your right hand index finger, the letter F lies under your left hand index finger and other such instructions about all other keys on this keyboard.

With your repeated conscious efforts and with time, as always is the case with your subconscious mind, it accepts your request and it then starts working for you and this is when you find that in order to type anything on this type of keyboard, you don’t have to think much. This is because active thinking is the job of your conscious mind and the operation of typing has now been taken over by your subconscious mind. Even if your subconscious mind is thinking in order to do this job for you, there is no way you will find this out and to you, the whole act seems to be getting done without putting much stress on your mind, which in this case is your conscious mind and which is actually not having any load on it. Hence you are right in thinking that you are not putting any stress on your mind when you are typing. The same mechanism holds in case of typing on your cell phones as well as all on other gadgets and in case of many other day to day life activities, which your conscious mind requests your subconscious mind to do and once these requests are accepted, you feel like doing these activities, without much effort or to be precise, without much conscious effort.

Let’s now make this discussion more interesting and let’s change a few parameters in the above mentioned examples and see what happens? Let’s change the type of keyboard or let’s simply change the position where you initially put your fingers on a qwerty type of keyboard and likewise, let’s assume that in a room full of darkness; you are now supposed to put this food into the mouth of the person sitting in front of you, instead of putting it in your mouth. In both cases, your job won’t be done as the new job demands a different type of script which has not been written on your subconscious mind and accordingly your subconscious mind doesn’t come to your help and hence you fail.

Coming back to the original topic, your subconscious mind even though very strong and powerful, is very slow and resistant to changes and accordingly you may need much time and effort if you want to write a script on it and you may require even more effort and time if you want to undo that change in script at a later stage. So keep in mind that when you are dealing with your subconscious mind, time and repeated conscious efforts are the two keys to your success. This is why I put so much stress on repeating your activities again and again even though they may be small ones, as each one of those specific activities sends a specific signal to your subconscious mind, a signal which requests for a new script to be written on your subconscious mind and as these signals keep going to your subconscious mind, this new script will be written sooner or later.

Coming to the effective treatment of this habit of acting irresponsible and then making excuses, now that we know the root cause of this habit, it is comparatively easier to treat it. To start this treatment at the first level, you will need to start engaging in simple and easy activities which you take up and complete and if you are not able to complete any of these activities in a proper or timely manner, you won’t make any excuses and you will simply admit that it is your mistake and you will try to correct it next time. As you engage in increasing number of such small but specific and effective activities, you start sending signals to your subconscious mind that you now want to replace the old script with a new one, and as you know, even though it might take time and effort, you will succeed in the end and that is what matters the most.

Taking a look at the criteria for selection of these small but specific and effective activities, start with activities that you like doing most, and which are easy to do. At the first level, you should assign such activities to yourself on your own instead of asking someone else to assign these activities to you as in the beginning, it may be difficult for you to say sorry to others even if they are your nearest and dearest ones, in case you fail to do any activities in proper or timely manner. This is because, it has been a long time since you honestly admitted your mistakes or shortcomings before someone and accordingly, it is going to be tougher if you want to admit them now as your subconscious mind will bring up fears and you may worry that the other person may not react decently to your admission of mistakes.

The second reason why you should start this practice on your own in the beginning is that, sometimes it may actually be the case that the other person may not behave as decently in response to your admission of a mistake, as you think he or she should behave. If this happens, it is going to give a big amount of discouragement to you, which is the last thing you want at this level. Hence assign these jobs to yourself and start completing them in a proper and timely manner and in case you are not able to do any one of them in a proper or timely manner, it is the time to admit your mistake in front of yourself and by yourself. This practice should also be done with maximum conscious effort, since the more conscious effort you put in, the better and the earlier you see the results.

Whenever you fail to do a job in a proper or timely manner, don’t just admit your mistake and promise to become better, in your mind as that is not likely to help much and instead use more and more number of conscious ways to do this practice. For example, each time you fail at any one of such activities, take a paper and write on it five times that it is your mistake, you feel sorry for it and you will do your best to correct it. Then consider doing the same on your computer, with the help of the keyboard and finally consider standing in front of a mirror where you can actually see yourself and start saying in a fair volume of voice that, it is your mistake, you feel sorry for it and you will do your best to correct it. You should take great care of the fact that while admitting this mistake in front of the mirror, your eyes should be right in the eyes of the person in the mirror and you have to do it like the person in the mirror is someone else.

When it comes to verbal admission, saying it once is sufficient and you don’t need to repeat it again and again as that may start looking like a punishment to you and accordingly you may want to skip this practice of verbal admission which is exactly what you should not do if you want to get rid of this habit of making excuses at the earliest. Most of you must have seen some movies in which a character writes a letter of apology to other character and he or she mentions that since he or she didn’t have sufficient courage to ask the same apology in front of the other character, he or she is doing so by means of a letter. This happens in real life also and the reason for such a practice is the fact that verbal admissions of guilt, mistakes and other such things are the most difficult ones whereas written admissions are easier. Hence you are not likely to send so strong a signal to your subconscious mind through written apology as you can send through verbal apology. For this reason, verbal apology if properly done is sufficient one time only whereas you may need more of written apologies or admissions.

If some of you are thinking what is the need for such apologies or to admit such mistakes in the first place when we can simply start completing more and more jobs in proper and timely manner, let me tell you this fact that for most of us, it is very difficult to correct a mistake if we don’t learn to admit it first, each time we make it. In addition to it, the fact that we have to admit a mistake each time we make it, puts a kind of positive fear in our minds which motivates us not to make it again as we will have to admit it again and feel embarrassed again, which each one of us wants to avoid. Hence we start being more conscious when we do the next task, which is exactly what we want to do to get rid of this problem of making excuses. This also brings forward one more interesting and useful fact that fears can also be used in a positive way which leads to one more valuable fact that most people, things or phenomena can be used in a positive as well as in a negative way, and it is up to you, whether you use them positively or negatively.

Looking at some specific activities which may help you improve at the first level, make a list of jobs or activities that you feel comfortable with and which are not very difficult to do since this is the first level only, and then start doing them. For example, depending on your level of comfort, you may assign yourself various activities like, “from now on I will wake up 30, 20 or even 15 minutes earlier than I do now”, “I will clean my room on daily basis”, “I will have the lunch ready by 2 PM and dinner ready by 8:30 PM without fail”, “I will wash or clean my car everyday between 7 AM to 8 AM or between any other specific times”, “I will assist my wife in purchase of vegetables and I will do it in a proper and timely manner”, I will go for a walk or for running everyday or 3-4 times a week at a specific time and for a specific period of time”, “I will read books offering knowledge for 15 or 30 minutes every day or for a couple of hours every week” and many other such tasks which you think may work best for you at this level.

As you start doing these activities again and again; your conscious efforts will start sending more and more messages to your subconscious mind and these messages will say that you want to do your job in a proper and timely manner and if you fail to do so anytime, you are willing to admit your mistake than making excuses. As these messages keep reaching your subconscious mind again and again, it will start paying attention to them and accordingly it will start putting less amount of resistance with passing time and with repeated activities. Finally a stage will come when you find that you are now doing most of such small activities in a proper and timely manner and at the same time, without much conscious effort and you know the reason for this.

Once you have mastered this first level, start applying the same formula to the sphere of your profession and all other spheres where you did badly and where you want to see results. You will be amazed to see that you are naturally doing better in most of these spheres compared to how you did before going through this treatment. This is once again for the reason that your subconscious mind which was your enemy before this treatment, has now become your friend and accordingly you are getting more and more help from your subconscious mind instead of getting more and more resistance from it, which was the case earlier.

One more negative trait, which can cause problems for you in various spheres of your life, is the habit of making too many excuses or giving too many justifications when you should have done your job properly. It is a common trait among many people that they don’t do what is required of them in a proper or timely manner and when they are asked for an explanation why they didn’t do their jobs in a proper or timely manner, instead of admitting their mistakes, they start making excuses and giving justifications. Even though many of these people think that they have convinced or fooled the other person with their perfect looking excuses and justifications but in reality, these excuses look perfect to them only and from the point of view of the other person, such excuse and justifications only add fuel to the fire.

Yes, almost all of us can sometimes face a situation when due to certain unavoidable circumstances, we are not able to complete our jobs in a proper or timely manner and it is fine if it stays only till here. However, if you have developed a habit of not doing your job in a proper or timely manner and then make excuses, it does become a serious concern. In this case, slowly but surely, you will start losing your credibility and most people will avoid giving you important tasks or jobs, since you are a person who they  can’t depend on and most people in this world including you and me, don’t want to give an important job to someone who is not dependable.

Hence it is a big problem and if you have this habit, you should start doing the things needed to get rid of this negative habit. In order to do so, we will first look at the root cause of this habit as we always do and then find the activities which can help you get rid of this problem. This problem starts from some point back in the time, when you couldn’t do something in a proper and timely manner and instead of admitting your mistake, you decided to make an excuse. As you made this excuse, it was accepted by the other person and accordingly your mistake was ignored. This very fact gave you a negative type of motivation which said that if you are smart enough to save yourself from apologizing in front of various people, then why apologize and why not make such wonderful excuses more and more.

Kindly consider this fact also that since you have made such an excuse for the very first time in your life, this is the primary reason that the other person has not doubted your sincerity. He has accepted your excuses as a genuine problem that you may have faced while doing his job because at this point, you have not developed a reputation of being a person who doesn’t do his job in a proper or timely manner and then makes excuses. The other person trusts you and considers that you may have faced a genuine problem due to which you couldn’t complete his job on time or in the proper manner and this whole practice has actually got nothing to do with your smartness in making excuses. But as you start thinking that you are smart enough to make such excuses which can save you from saying sorry, you tend to put in less effort and less concentration in your next job, as you already know that even if the job is not completed in a proper or timely manner, there is something special about you which will save you from all the trouble.

As a result, the next job is once again not completed in a proper or timely manner and once again you use your best weapon which you have discovered recently and which is the weapon of making excuses. As expected, this weapon strikes the target once again and you are saved from saying sorry. This is when you start believing in this weapon more and more and accordingly you start sending more and more messages to your subconscious mind with each one of such excuses that, making excuses is much better than being responsible since it is comparatively easier of the two and at the same time, it makes you feel smarter as you are now able to fool more and more people.

But in reality, just like the first time, the other person has only bought your excuses not because you have fooled him but because he trusts you and doesn’t doubt your words. This is because even at this point, you still have a clean image or reputation and people don’t think you are irresponsible or undependable. As your trick works once again, it gives you more and more reasons to put less effort in your work and more effort in making such excuses which give you a great feeling of being smarter than many other people and so you start doing it more often. Accordingly, your conscious mind starts sending more and more messages to your subconscious mind, saying that you are willing to make excuses rather than act responsibly. With these repeated and frequent messages, your subconscious mind registers a new script which says that making excuses is much better than being responsible and taking all the pain to do a job in a proper or timely manner.

As a result, your subconscious mind starts giving you more and more reasons not to complete any job given to you, in a proper or timely manner and as this continues, you start making more and more excuses to the people who give you different jobs from time and time. Finally, a time comes when you project an image of being irresponsible, undependable and untrustworthy. At this point, most people around you start believing that you are not a trustworthy person and accordingly they start avoiding you. Though you become aware of this new and negative image of yours, it is very late to change yourself back to a responsible or trustworthy person now, as your subconscious mind considers you as a person who is irresponsible and who is good at making excuses. Accordingly, your subconscious mind will put much resistance when you want to change yourself back to what you originally were. It is you who wanted your subconscious mind to believe that you are an irresponsible person who is good at making excuses and even though it took you a long time to make your subconscious mind believe you, but it finally believed you.

Hence your subconscious mind starts supporting you in a way you wanted, by giving you more and more reasons not to complete your work in a proper or timely manner and by suggesting better and better excuses to save your grace and to fool others. This is what you asked your subconscious mind to do for you and even though it took your subconscious mind a long time to start working according to your wish, it finally started working according to the script given by you. By the time you realize that you have given a wrong script to your subconscious mind and you want to change it, it is very late as your subconscious mind is now comfortable executing the old script and doesn’t want to change the script again, at least not easily. Hence, it puts great resistance when you want to change it. This is why it is said, you should be careful what you wish for, you just might get it.

Our subconscious mind is very strong, very vast and accordingly the slowest to change. Even though it is even more vast and slower than an ocean, but for the sake of understanding, you can consider it like an ocean since we don’t have a body of water larger than an ocean, available with us. If you want to heat a glassful of cold water, it won’t take much time and you are able to do it fast, but if you want to heat a container of cold water which contains 1000s of liters of cold water, it is certainly going to need much more effort. Now consider that you have to heat an entire lake or a large river of cold water and even though you have the Sun itself to help you in your job, it will still take time and it is not something that can be done in a matter of minutes like you were able to do it in case of glass of cold water.

In the end, coming to the ocean, now consider how much time and effort will it take to heat the entire water of an ocean even though the Sun itself is on your side and it is doing this job for you? Yes, you are right and it will take much more time in this case as the surface water of the ocean may look hot or warm in case of heating but the water at the bottom is still very cold and accordingly it is going to take more and more time to heat the ocean, layer by layer.

The most interesting part is that now that you have accomplished a task even this difficult, with great effort and time, how would it sound if, after heating the entire ocean or even after heating a glass of cold water, you turn to it and say, “I have made you hot but now I don’t like it, so I want you to become cold once again!” You all know that it is not going to happen on its own, and will need an equal amount of time and effort if not more, to bring the water back to its original state.

This is exactly how things happen or change at the level of your subconscious mind. It requires much effort and time to make a change to your subconscious mind and once this change is made, it is equally difficult to undo this change since your subconscious mind will first put up resistance to make a change, and once that change has been made, it will put up resistance to undo it. This is why you should be careful what you wish for as you just might get it and if you don’t like it later, there may be no way of undoing your wish or the way may be very difficult and time consuming, like in case of your subconscious mind.

Have you ever observed, though many talented men and women in various spheres of life are naturally gifted, even then it is said that, practice makes a person perfect. In order to know the exact mechanism working behind practice, learn this already learnt fact once more that practice is nothing else but a series of conscious efforts through which we keep sending more and more signals to our subconscious mind that we need more and more skill, energy and stamina while engaging in a particular type of job, sport or activity. With our repeated conscious efforts called practice, slowly but strongly, our subconscious mind registers our request and it then starts helping us and accordingly we start becoming better and better at that particular job, activity or sport. This is why practice makes a person perfect.

Let’s now try to learn this lesson of courage from the life of one of the greatest and most courageous people, the history of mankind ever has registered, who is one of my personal favorites and this man is no one else but the 16th President of United States of America, Honorable Mr. Abraham Lincoln. Starting from 1830 and going to 1860, he failed at almost everything he tried including business, legislature, US Congress, US Senate and even US Vice President without registering even a single significant win or victory in these 30 years which is a fairly long period of time.

However, this great and courageous man didn’t quit or give in and he kept giving his best to every contest and every battle that came his way. Even though he kept facing defeat after defeat, none of these defeats could break his courage and he kept moving ahead with the same courage as if he already knew that his job was to try and give his best and winning or losing was secondary. This losing streak prevailed almost for 30 years until a day came when this great man won the biggest victory anyone can win in United States of America, as this great man was elected as 16th President of United States of America, in November 1860 and whatever great things he achieved after that, need no mention.

Hence true courage neither lies in trying difficult tasks and winning nor does it lie in trying difficult tasks and losing, as some of you may think now. True courage lies in attempting a difficult task, giving it your best and then not bothering about the outcome. For such courageous men, failures are more welcome than successes as failures won’t only teach them how to succeed but they will also tell them how to maintain the success once achieved, which success alone will never tell.

Now that you understand what real courage is and what our aim is when we want to deal with the problem of lack of courage, let’s continue with the original topic. As I was saying, while trying risky activities at the first level of treating your problem of lack of courage, you must fail at some of these activities as such failures will teach you one thing that you need to learn the most if you are suffering from this problem, which gives you fear of losing. The correct way to get rid of this fear of losing is not to win again and again, but it is to lose also though such failures are supposed to be small ones at the first level of this treatment.

Your mind has many fears regarding what failing or losing can do to you and how your life may become miserable and worthless if you fail or lose. Due to such fears, you are afraid of trying as you don’t want to lose and this is where the root of your problem lies. In order to remove this problem from its root itself, lose more and more through conscious efforts and after trying your best of course, and start showing these fears of your mind that losing is not as bad as they projected it to be and you are just fine even after losing again and again. Try to understand this fact that the root cause of this problem of lack of confidence are the fears that you will fail and such failures will make your life miserable. Therefore, if you are able to show these fears that nothing changes much if you fail and in fact you become stronger and wiser after each failure, what is left for these fears to do anymore except leaving you for good.

No fear scares the person who loves failures as much as he loves successes because such fears can only scare you by showing very bad consequence of failures. However, when you have already seen and experienced those consequences which in most cases are not at all as bad as these fears projected, you are as comfortable with losing as you are with wining. This is when your fears or your problem of lack of courage has to leave you because you have left nothing for them to do anymore. Hence at the first level of this practice, attempt risky, difficult or scary activities of the basic level, give each one of them your best and then don’t bother about winning or losing. Whenever you lose at one of such activities, you will really find that this loss or failure has not changed much or in fact it has not changed anything at all, contrary to what your fears projected.

Looking at some specific activities, which can help you get rid of this problem at this first level, chose some activities which you were afraid to do during your young age or during your childhood and start attempting them now. This is because the fears which capture your mind during your childhood and even in your young age are the foundation of all other fears of the same type, which keep growing in the later parts of your life. For this reason, let’s shake this problem from its foundations and let’s root out these foundations as the problem will have to go away then. So start this practice with any activities from your childhood or young age which are not much of a job now but which still include elements of risk or difficulty and the primary objective is to attempt these activities without bothering about winning or losing. As you move ahead and start engaging in such activities, you will start having fun and at the same time you will start realizing that losing is not as bad as you thought or as the fears of your mind made it to be, and in fact, losing is also fun.

Though these small activities of courage may be different for different people depending on their age, country, culture and other local factors, but I will still share a few of them in order to give you an idea. For example, if you are afraid of playing football due to the fear that you will do very badly at it even though you like it very much, just start playing it and don’t bother much about whether you win or lose and instead focus on enjoying the game and learning as much as you can. As you keep playing it more and more, you will surely learn how to play it better and accordingly you will start getting better at this game even though you may still not be as good at it as many other players are. However, your competition is not with other players and your competition is with yourself. Therefore, even if you see an improvement of 25% after a month or so, you have achieved two good things. The first one is the improvement in this game of football and the second and the bigger one is that now you are not afraid of playing football and you are enjoying this game, which means that one of your fears has left you for good.

Likewise, if you like dancing but you don’t do it much because you don’t know much about dancing, start taking lessons in dancing and start dancing more and more even if you do miserably at it, in the beginning. As in the first case, you will start becoming better and better in this case also even though you may not be as good as some other people who are taking these lessons with you. Once again, that is not relevant and our only objective is to become better at dancing and hence this completion is only with you and not with anyone else. As you keep doing it again and again, your fear of dancing will start keeping more and more distance from you and one day, it will leave you for good. Once again you have received two wonderful gifts: you have learned to dance better and you have got rid of one more fear.

Similarly, choose other activities which interest you but which you are afraid to do as you fear that you may do badly or very badly at them, and start doing these activities without bothering about the results which are bound to be good, sooner or later. For example, you can start cooking more and more new dishes, or start taking cooking classes if cooking is what you like and fear at the same time, you can start taking lessons in swimming if this is what you like and fear at the same time, you can start taking lessons in horse riding if you like and fear it at the same time, you can start learning how to drive a car if this is what you like and fear at the same time, you can start learning how to climb a tree if this is what you wanted to do in your childhood but you didn’t do it as you feared that you would fall, you can start visiting more and more deserted places if this is what you feared in your childhood and likewise, you can start engaging in hundreds of other activities which you liked and feared and hence you didn’t do them.

Always remember to choose the activities which are easier for you to do at first. Then start doing them with all your heart and courage without counting the number of wins and losses. Soon you will start feeling that it is playing a game or engaging in an activity that matters more than winning every time. Once you understand this fact, you will welcome each and every loss or failure and you will start learning from them also. This is the time when your fears will have to leave you because if you are not afraid of losing or failing, there is nothing left for these fears to do and accordingly they leave you and start finding the next suitable candidate.

As you start getting better and more comfortable with the activities chosen for the first level, start engaging in activities which are more difficult than your current activities but not very difficult at the same time as you want to increase the level of difficulty, bit by bit and not all at once. As you try more and more things that you feared and as you start enjoying more and more of them, you are all set to try big and even bigger things in many other spheres of your life as you have now understood that trying and giving your best is all that matters and winning or losing is only a part of the game as well as a part of life.

Always remember that your failures are your teachers who teach you how not to fail again and how to increase your chances of success next time by not making the same mistakes. So keep learning from your failures until there is nothing left to learn and this is the time when you are all set to succeed more and more as you have already learnt most ways through which you are likely to fail and accordingly, you are now able to stay away from these mistakes and hence your chances of achieving success are far better now.

As the title suggests, this negative habit puts specific types of fears in your mind due to which you only want to engage in things or activities which look absolutely safe to you and you don’t want to engage in things or activities which have a percentage risk factor of 30, 20 or even less. I know that safety and security should be a major concern for all of us but there are some things in this world, which can’t be achieved without taking risk and surprisingly most of the biggest and greatest things fall into this category. Hence you need to start taking calculated risks if you want to achieve big, bigger or the biggest things in your life.

Look at the history of mankind and you will find that the very existence of a human being on this earth starts with a big risk, the risk which a mother takes by conceiving a baby even after knowing that such conception may cause many health problems for her and in some cases, it may take her life too. Though medical science has now become advanced enough to make sure that in most cases, the mother as well as the baby is safe, but even when no medical science was there to start with, all mothers took this risk of their health and their lives in order to bring us to this earth and into existence. The reason why all these mothers took this great risk was that all of them knew that greater achievements need greater courage and accordingly greater risks need to be taken. Always remember that the greater are the risks the greater are the rewards, or the same can be quoted in the words of Thomas Jefferson, one of the great founding fathers of United States of America who said, ‘with great risk comes great reward’.

Do you know that the survival rate till the age of adulthood is low or very low among many species of animals, sea creatures, birds and other such species but even then their mothers conceive the babies and give birth to them, knowing well in advance that many of them will die young or very young in front of their eyes. As these babies come to the real world, many of them and in some cases most of them die young or very young while their mothers witness their deaths and before you can even start to wonder, these mothers are ready to do it again.

The reason is that even all these species among animals know that there are no rewards without risks, there is no success without failure and there is no life without death. Hence they only do what is required of them, they try to do it in the best possible way by providing the safest atmosphere to their new born babies and they are then willing to take a calculated amount of risk. No mother wants to see her babies die in front of her eyes even if it is an animal or bird mother, but they watch all such things and they keep doing it again and again after watching it again and again as they know that there is no reward without risk.

There is nothing bad in learning from anyone even if that anyone is an animal or a bird as learning is invaluable regardless of the source it comes from. So disregard the fact that the ability to take calculated risks is being taught to us again and again by animal kingdom and other such species, and grab these pearls of knowledge and wisdom. If this much motivation is not enough for you, look at the history of mankind and try to find even a single great achievement accomplished by a human being; which didn’t involve risk or to be more precise, which didn’t involve great amount of risk.

Alexander the great took 40 thousand men with him to invade, attack and win one of the most powerful empires of his times called Persian Empire and he did so successfully. Even though he may have been a skilled warrior and a great leader, he must have known from the beginning till the end that his adventure comes with a great amount of risk; the risk which he calculated, the risk which he took and the risk which rewarded him in such a big way that even till this day his name is mentioned among the greatest, the most courageous and the most successful warriors and kings, the history of mankind has ever witnessed. He took an army of 40 thousand Greeks with him and he kept conquering whatever and whoever came in their way, which is one of the biggest examples of the greatest of the courage that a human being can exhibit, and courage as you should all know, is nothing but the ability to take risk.

In the history of mankind, you will find that Alexander the great was not the only one to exhibit such great courage and there were many other courageous and brave people who took great risks during their times and in their respective fields. These people not only left their permanent marks on the pages of history, but they can still inspire us enough to take risks and be courageous, hundreds or even thousands of years after they died.

This motivation from various spheres of life should be enough to inspire courage. Coming back to the main topic, if you have this negative habit of taking no risk or taking little risk, it is the time you should start doing conscious effort to get rid of it and replace it with the exact opposite habit which is called courage. Many of you may already know by now, when lack of courage leaves, courage checks in or in other words, when courage arrives, it is check out time for lack of courage. Moving ahead with this topic, I will tell you easy and very effective activities through which you can get rid of this habit of lack of courage.

Looking at some basic practices which can help you win this battle at the first level without much effort or difficulty; start engaging in small acts which need you to take small amounts of risk and which at the same time are not very difficult. This is the first level and you don’t want to engage in activities which may be too difficult for you at this level as such activities may drive you away from this whole practice. When you start putting your conscious efforts into these activities that require a certain amount of risk, your conscious mind starts sending signals to your subconscious mind, saying that you can take risk. As these signals keep repeating themselves, the quantum of resistance that you face from your subconscious mind when you attempt to take risks will start decreasing with time. This is when you will find that you are getting rid of this habit of lack of courage as more and more courage is coming to you now; with each risky activity that you engage in.

It should be noted that even though you need to win in most of your activities which have been suggested for the treatment of other types of negative traits of your personality, it is not important for you to win in most of your activities in case of this treatment and all you have to do is to engage in activities that demand risk. Take that risk and your job is done. It may seem strange but in this case, the message that you are supposed to send to your subconscious mind through your conscious efforts of engaging in such risky activities is the one that says, “I can take risks now”, and it is not the message which says that “I can now take risks and win at the same time”. Hence whether you win or lose is secondary and the fact that you are engaging in such risky activities without much fear or without any fear is the primary objective of engaging in these activities.

Even though you should still try and succeed in most of such risky activities as that will give a boost to your confidence, it will be even more helpful if you lose or fail in some of these risky activities. The root cause of this problem of lack of courage is your fear that if you engage in risky activities, you may face failure, defeat or loss. Hence when you engage in these activities and you win or succeed in all of them, your fear starts getting weaker and though it is a good thing to happen but this is not a complete treatment of your fear or your problem of lack of courage. This is due to the reason that the boost delivered to your confidence by each success or win that you register, is not the permanent and correct solution for this problem as sooner or later you have to lose as everyone else in this world does, and when that happens, your fears will gain much more strength and they will once again start troubling you.

Real courage doesn’t lie in taking risk when you are already certain of your success or victory, because what is the whole point of taking risk if you are sure to achieve success or victory. Real courage lies in taking risk even though they may be well calculated risks, and giving it your best whether you succeed or not and if latter is the case which means that if you don’t succeed, real courage inside you will motivate you to accept that failure or defeat and try harder and smarter next time. Real courage takes you to a point when trying a risky act and giving it your best is the only thing you have to do and not bother about the results. You may win many times but even if you lose, you don’t have to take it as a loss and you have to keep moving forward after learning important lessons from your failure or defeat.

Success can’t teach us much and most of the time it is the failures that teach us the most important lessons of our lives! For this reason, learning to lose or fail and then moving forward with the courage to register a victory is one of the most important things you have to learn if you want to achieve big or very big things in life. Look at the lives and achievements of the greatest people in history and you will find that most of these great people didn’t earn their titles of greatness by winning from the start and by winning most of the time. Instead they earned this title of greatness by trying again and again, taking risk again and again and not bothering whether they are winning or losing.

Real courage doesn’t lie in trying difficult tasks and winning them every time. It takes even greater courage to attempt a difficult task, fail and then start trying the same task or any other such task of difficulty, without much delay and without any regrets. For example, if you are on a winning streak and you keep winning everything and everyone that comes your way, the risk factor doesn’t remain much as you are already sure that you are going to win or succeed at the next task also and accordingly, you don’t need great courage to attempt the next task.

Now consider a situation where you attempt something big with all your courage and ability but you fail and you are then asked to attempt another difficult task right away. Now, you know that if you attempt this second task which is equally difficult, you may lose like you did in the first task. This is where the fears and real risk comes into play. You have recently taken a big hit on your confidence by losing and you are now expected to try another task with a similar level of difficulty or even more. Imagine how much courage will you need in this case as you know that you have a difficult task at your hand, you have recently failed at one such task and you can fail at this one also, but you still go ahead and give it your best shot, not worrying about winning or losing.

The planets keep the company of stars and hence they shine without having any light.

Even though I have already cautioned you to stay away from bad company, over and over again in this book, let me take it up here as an independent topic. The kind of company you keep will always have a major impact on whether you achieve success or failure in various spheres of your life. I started this topic with a wonderful line, even though the planets don’t have any light of their own, but we still see them shining in the sky and the reason for this is that they keep the company of stars and are able to reflect light from the stars, so these planets shine too. Likewise, you will either shine or become dull depending on the company you keep.

If there is one negative habit which can destroy all your chances of achieving good things in any sphere of your life even when you have many good habits also, it is none other than bad company. The intensity of this negative habit is very high and so you need to keep away from bad company. Have you ever seen lions keeping the company of jackals?  The answer is no; as lions know if they start keeping the company of jackals, they will become cowards themselves and they won’t be able to rule any more. Likewise, have you ever seen pure or divine people keeping the company of completely corrupted people? No, as divine people know that keeping the company of corrupted souls will take away their divinity and will make them corrupt too.

Moving on, wise people keep away from the company of fools and they only prefer the company of wise people as they know that regularly keeping company with fools will finally make them less wise. A wise man will seldom get anything valuable to learn from a fool, whereas he may keep learning useless things which will diminish his wisdom. Obeying the same rule, brave people keep the company of the brave, rich people keep the company of the rich, talented people keep the company of other talented people and divine people keep the company of other divine people.

This is because all these people need a specific type of positive energy to maintain or increase the status of their own positive talent or characteristic and the best source of such specific positive energy is the other people of their kind, particularly the ones who are far more advanced in the same field of talent that they are in. On the other hand, keeping the company of people who have a specific type of negative energy which is the exact opposite of the specific type of positive energy that you have in your aura, is the most destructive thing you can do to yourself as such negative energy will keep diminishing or cancelling out the positive effects of your specific positive energy. As a result, you will keep losing positive energy at a fast pace and a day will come when you start running short of positive energy.

Hence it is strongly recommended to stay away from bad company whether you have a weak positive aura or even a strong positive aura because the negative energy transferred by these people to your aura can cause problems for you. As the duration of such company increases, so does the amount of negative energy in your aura and so does the number of troubles and problems that you may have to face in your life. On the other hand, it is strongly recommended to keep the company of more and more positive and good people as the company of good people will keep adding more and more positive energy to your aura; thereby making you more and more positive and as a result, you will have better and better chances of success in various spheres of your life.

Therefore, if your energy equation is shifting towards high percentage of negativity, which means that most people in your company are negative and you only have a few positive people in your circle or company, it is the time to act now. Disengage from more and more negative people in your company and at the same time, start making friends and acquaintances with more and more people having positive auras.

It may not be easy to disengage from some of your friends who are close or dear to you and who are bad at the same time. Such friends are bad company and are a source of more and more negative energy for you and hence you simply have to move away from them as there is no exception to this rule. However, if some of these friends and relatives are too dear to leave, you can simply reduce the amount of time you spend in their company. This will certainly reduce the amount of negative energy being added to your aura through them. At the same time, keep adding more and more positive people to your friend circle as they will provide more and more positive energy to you and improve your aura.

You may also start motivating some very dear but negative people in your company to get rid of their negativity and you can start helping them out in doing so. Even if you are able to get one friend or relative out of their negativity, it is a big thing for you to achieve. The act of making a person better and improved is certainly a very good deed. Hence you should start following these guidelines and do all the things mentioned by me which say, disengage completely from the company of negative people where it is possible, reduce the amount of time that you spend in the company of negative people if you can’t leave them completely, try to motivate some of these negative people to change into positive ones and help them out wherever possible. Finally, start engaging in the company of more and more good people or so to say, positive people.

Apart from the habit of keeping company with more and more negative people, there is one more negative habit and this habit is having too little company or too few friends and acquaintances. This problem can also reduce your chances of success in various spheres of your life as humans are supposed to be social and accordingly you can’t afford to keep away from most people in this world, as this world is full of beautiful, good and positive people and no one can afford the luxury of missing most of them.

So if you don’t have many friends, it is time that you should start making some really good friends. Once again, you don’t have to do anything extra ordinary in order to start this practice and simply start interacting with more and more people. For example, start interacting with your office colleagues, your neighbors, your school or college mates, the parents of your son or daughter’s friends and many other such people who keep meeting you from time to time but you really don’t do much effort to catch up with them and turn these meetings into something meaningful. Some of you may say that most people you meet are not worthy of becoming your friends. However, if you give these people more time and more opportunities, you will find that some of them are indeed good or very good and it was just the fact that you couldn’t get to the bottom of their goodness in the couple of formal meetings that you had with them.

So start interacting with more and more people and then repeat these interactions by taking a step forward from your end if they are not doing so, as many of them may also be as scared to make the first move as you are. Get to know these people more and more and in the process, when you are certain that a specific person is good enough to be your friend, endorse this friendship whereas if you find that a specific person is not worthy of being your friend and he or she is a bad company, disengage as soon as you can. This process may be hard, long and tiresome but the rewards are well worth the effort and if you are able to find even one good person worthy of being your friend, among 10 people you meet and interact with, you are doing great. On the other hand, if you are not able to find even one good friend among 10 or even 20 people you meet, it means that the problem may not be from their side, and it may be from your side. If such is the case, go through this book again and find out which negative traits you may have in your personality, which are keeping you away from the company of good people.

As I was saying, even if you find one good person worthy of being your friend, among 10 people you meet and interact with, all you have to do is to multiply the number of good friends with the number 10 and you will get the number of people you have to meet and interact with. I know it is difficult and it will put you to real work but the rewards will make you forget all the pain and effort, so start trying now.

If you try and observe, you will find that most successful people in this world have a big circle of friends and acquaintances as all these people know that a person alone can’t achieve much, no matter how hard he may try. For example, have you ever seen a successful political leader with fewer acquaintances or with a small social circle? Have you ever noticed a successful business man or an employee sitting at the top of a big company with a limited circle of people around him? The answer in all these cases as well as in many other such cases is no and on the contrary, all these people have huge circles of people who help and assist them from time to time.

You simply can’t afford to be an island if you want to achieve big or great things in your life because in order to achieve all those big and great things, you will need the support of more and more people in your life. These are the people who can stand by you and come to your assistance as and when you need them, the people whose mere association with you is enough for you and for the world to realize that you are capable of achieving great things as you have a great number of capable people standing by your side, and the people who keep providing you with more and more positive energy through their advices, activities, wishes and even through their company alone.

So start meeting and testing more and more people from this day and this moment; and start this beautiful journey of making more and more valuable friends and acquaintances. During this journey, take those people with you whom you find good and positive enough to be your friends, and leave those people behind who are only likely to pull you back through the negativity they have.
