When Ketu is malefic in a horoscope and it afflicts Sun by virtue of its placement in some house of the horoscope along with Sun, Pitra Dosh is formed in the horoscope due to malefic Ketu. Similarly, if malefic and fully active Ketu is placed in the ninth house of a horoscope or it is placed with the lord of the ninth house in a horoscope, Pitra Dosh is formed in the horoscope. Pitra Dosh formed by Ketu can trouble the native with many types of problems which may differ from person to person depending on the overall tone of their horoscopes.

If such Pitra Dosh is very strong and more malefic planets add to the horoscope of this native, he may get admitted to a mental asylum during his young age; and he may never get out of it till the day of his death.

Some natives suffering from this type of Pitra Dosh may have to face public disgrace by virtue of their involvement in many types of scandals and they may have to face serious reputation losses and professional losses through such scandals even though they may not actually be guilty of what they have been accused of. On the other hand, Pitra Dosh of this type is formed in a horoscope due to the combination of malefic Mercury with benefic or malefic Sun, which can devoid the native of professional success despite his knowledge and intelligence. In the previous chapter, we have read that Sun is one of the two most important planets among navagraha and the other planet is Moon. The importance of this planet called Moon can’t be explained in words and it carries such great importance that it is more important than even Sun in some cases. This is due to the fact that Moon rules the mind and as we know, mind is the most powerful entity in the whole personality of a native. It is our mind only which can make us create some of the most wonderful things; and the same mind can make us create some of the worst things. This is what makes Moon the most important planet in a horoscope and this is why Vedic astrology puts so much emphasis on Moon, that some of its most important concepts are based on Moon and its motion or placement in different houses, signs and nakshatras.

For example, the sign of placement of Moon in a horoscope is called the birth sign of the native, which is commonly known as Raashi in Vedic astrology. To simplify the term, if Moon is placed in the sign of Gemini in the birth horoscope of a native, Gemini is called the Raashi of the native. Similarly, the nakshatra in which Moon is placed in the birth chart of a native is called the birth nakshatra of the native. To simplify it, if Moon is placed in the sign of Gemini in the birth chart of a native and within the sign of Gemini, it is placed in the nakshatra of Punarvasu which is seventh among 27 nakshatras, the Raashi of the native is Gemini and the birth nakshatra of the native is Punarvasu.

Going further, the ancient Indian system of match making gives so much importance to Moon that a great part of this system is based on the process of Gun Milaan which is a process based on Moon and Moon only. In the process of Gun Milaan, certain specific calculations are done to assign a score to the couple, where such score ranges from 1 to 36. This score is calculated by finding the mutual compatibility of the Moon signs as well as birth nakshatras of both the natives involved in such match making. A score above 18 is considered good and as it goes higher, it becomes better and better; with 36 out of 36 being the best.

This is due to the fact that the ancient system of match making was based on the phrase that Marriage is a union of two minds. Similarly, if malefic and fully active Moon is placed in the ninth house of a horoscope or it is placed with the lord of the ninth house in a horoscope, Pitra Dosh is formed in the horoscope. Pitra Dosh formed by Moon can trouble the native with many kinds of problems which may differ from person to person depending on the overall tone of their horoscopes.

The natives who didn’t respect and obey their mothers and who troubled their mothers on account of one thing or the other in their past lives are likely to have this type of Pitra Dosh in their horoscopes. Such Pitra Dosh is formed due to the curse of the mother, which is inflicted on the native due to the bad karmas done by him towards his mother in his past life. The strength and field of impact of this type of Pitra Dosh may vary from horoscope to horoscope depending on the quantum of bad karmas done by the native to hurt his mother in his past life.

For example, the presence of this type of Pitra Dosh in the seventh house of a horoscope can indicate that the native and some of his ancestors may have troubled and tortured their mothers in order to please their wives in their past lives or they may have remained silent when their wives tortured their mothers in their past lives. For example, if malefic Sun is placed in the seventh house of a horoscope along with the lord of the ninth house for that horoscope, Pitra Dosh is formed by Sun and in this case, it can cause problems related to the marriage of the native since seventh house primarily deals with marriage. Similarly if malefic Sun is placed in the tenth house of a horoscope along with the lord of the ninth house for that horoscope, Pitra Dosh may be formed by Sun in that horoscope and the native may face problems in his profession due to this defect; as the tenth house of a horoscope primarily deals with the profession of the native.

This type of Pitra Dosh forms in a horoscope due to the engagement of the native in some specific types of bad karmas during his past lives, especially during his recent past life. The Sun as we know, stands for our father, forefathers and ancestors among other things. If such Pitra Dosh is very strong in the horoscope of this native and there is no grace saving planet in his horoscope, the worst may happen.
