Pitra Dosh is undoubtedly one of the most feared defects which can form in a horoscope according to Vedic astrology; and the presence of Pitra Dosh in a horoscope can trouble the native with various kinds of problems and misfortunes in many spheres of his life. These problems can vary from horoscope to horoscope depending on the placement of Pitra Dosh in the horoscope and depending on some other important factors present in the horoscope. For example, a native suffering from Pitra Dosh may witness delay in the birth of children whereas another native under the malefic impact of this defect may have physically or mentally troubled children. Similarly, a native under the effect of Pitra Dosh may get married late or very late in his life whereas another native having this defect may suffer from more than one broken marriage.
Sun is considered as the king among navagraha and it represents our soul, the life giving and life continuing energy or source, father, forefathers and ancestors among many other important things. This makes it one of the two most important planets in every horoscope where the other planet is Moon; and accordingly any afflictions to Sun from one or more than one malefic planet in a horoscope can cause serious problems to the native.
Ninth house of a horoscope represents our father, forefathers, ancestors, our share of luck that we have brought to this life based on good or bad karmas done in past lives and many other important things. This house is also considered as one of the most important houses of a horoscope since it is a direct representative of the luck factor and there is virtually nothing that a man can do without good luck. If Sun or ninth house of a horoscope is afflicted by one or more than one negative planets in that horoscope, Pitra Dosh is formed in that horoscope.
Such Pitra Dosh can cause various kinds of troubles, problems and misfortunes for the native depending on the house of placement of such Pitra Dosh, the planets forming such Pitra Dosh, the strength and nature of Sun, the strength of malefic planets afflicting the Sun and some other important factors present in a horoscope. Through this article, we will try to understand the type of Pitra Dosh which is formed when Sun becomes negative and it forms this defect in a horoscope.
Sun as we know is the king among navagraha and it stands for our soul, the life giving energy, the ability to produce children, especially male children; father, forefathers, ancestors and many other important things and people. When Sun works negatively in a horoscope, which means that Sun is a malefic planet in a horoscope, and it afflicts the ninth house of the horoscope primarily due to its placement in the ninth house of that horoscope, Pitra Dosh is formed in that horoscope. Such Pitra Dosh is formed by the Sun itself and it can create many types of problems for the native, depending on his overall horoscope. Apart from this, Sun can also form Pitra Dosh in a horoscope, if it is malefic in the horoscope and it afflicts the lord of the ninth house in that horoscope.
For example, if malefic Sun is placed in the seventh house of a horoscope along with the lord of the ninth house for that horoscope, Pitra Dosh is formed by Sun and in this case, it can cause problems related to the marriage of the native since seventh house primarily deals with marriage. Similarly if malefic Sun is placed in the tenth house of a horoscope along with the lord of the ninth house for that horoscope, Pitra Dosh may be formed by Sun in that horoscope and the native may face problems in his profession due to this defect; as the tenth house of a horoscope primarily deals with the profession of the native.
This type of Pitra Dosh forms in a horoscope due to the engagement of the native in some specific types of bad karmas during his past lives, especially during his recent past life. The Sun as we know, stands for our father, forefathers and ancestors among other things. Therefore the formation of Pitra Dosh due to the presence of malefic Sun itself in the ninth house of horoscope which is also called the house of ancestors; means that the native has done some bad karmas in his past lives and such bad karmas were related to his father or his ancestors. As the father and the ancestors are represented by Sun among navagraha, Sun becomes malefic in the horoscope of this native and it afflicts the ninth house of his horoscope or the lord of the ninth house of his horoscope in order to form Pitra Dosh in his horoscope.
Looking at some of such bad Karmas, if a native as his ancestor didn’t obey and respect his father in his previous life, Sun may become malefic and it may form Pitra Dosh in his horoscope. The strength of such Pitra Dosh as well as the field of impact of such Pitra Dosh depends on many factors and hence it may vary from horoscope to horoscope. For example, if a native disrespected his father and he also wasted or even ruined the hard earned money and wealth of his father in his previous life, and such practices of this native troubled his father a lot, Pitra Dosh may form in his horoscope. In this case, malefic Sun may be placed in the second, sixth, ninth or eleventh house of his horoscope along with the lord of the ninth house of his horoscope and this combination may form Pitra Dosh.
The native affected by this type of Pitra Dosh formed by malefic Sun may have a father in this life; who may trouble him a lot. The quantum of such troubles depends on the quantum of troubles given by this native to his father in his previous life. It should be noted that the past life father of this native suffering from such Pitra Dosh may also be born as his son or even as his brother in this life, in order to settle his karmic account with the native. Whether his past life father may come as father in this life or he may come as son in this life is indicated from the overall tone of the horoscope of the native. For instance, if malefic exalted Sun is placed in the second house of a horoscope in the sign of Aries along with Mars; Pitra Dosh may be formed in the horoscope of this native, since Mars is the planetary lord of the sign Scorpio, which falls in the ninth house of this horoscope.
The native under the impact of such Pitra Dosh in this case may have his past life father as his father in this life also and he may have to suffer from many problems due to his father. The father of this native suffering from such Pitra Dosh may be very aggressive in nature, he may trouble the native a lot for money and he may keep extracting money from the native on account of one thing or the other, till the end of his life. This may have adverse effect on the financial equation of the native and he may have to avail financial loans many times in his life, in order to fulfill the financial demands of his father. Such financial demands of the father of this native suffering from such Pitra Dosh may stop only when the karmic debt owed by the native to his father from their previous life is settled. If such karmic account is not settled till the last day of his father’s life, such father may keep bothering the native for money till the end of his life, and he may bother the native in his next life also, until the karmic debt is settled.
Taking a look at one more example, if malefic Sun is placed in the sixth house of a horoscope in the sign of Gemini along with Mercury; Pitra Dosh may form in the horoscope as Mercury is the lord of ninth house in this case; and it is afflicted by malefic Sun. The father of this native suffering from such Pitra Dosh may trouble him a lot for money either directly or indirectly. It means that the father of this native suffering from such Pitra Dosh may have serious diseases and the native may have to spend a lot of money as well as time towards the treatment of such diseases. The amount of money spent and the amount of troubles faced by this native once again depends on the amount of karmic debt owed by him to his father.
Considering an example of a different type, if a native had troubled his father a lot in his past life, primarily in order to please his wife as she had not liked his father and she had provoked this native to trouble his father in many different ways, Pitra Dosh may form in the horoscope of this native in this life. Such native may have a horoscope in this life, which may have malefic Sun placed in the sixth or eighth house of his horoscope along with the lord of the ninth house, which is likely to be Venus. For example, if malefic Sun is placed in the sixth house of a horoscope in the sign of Aquarius along with Venus; Pitra Dosh may be formed in the horoscope of this native. The native under the impact of such Pitra Dosh may suffer from many problems in his married life and the father of this native may be the root cause of these problems.
The father of this native may provoke him to do bad things to his wife and under the impact of his father, the native may engage in arguments, verbal fights and even physical fights with his wife due to which he may suffer from a very bad marriage. Once again, the quantum of problems suffered by this native under the impact of such Pitra Dosh depends on the quantum of problems given by the native and his wife to his father in their previous life. In case where such Pitra Dosh is very strong, the native under its impact may suffer from a broken marriage after facing many troubles in such marriage for a long period of time, and the root cause of such broken marriage may be the father of this native.
Considering another angle in the same horoscope, if malefic Sun is placed in the eighth house of a horoscope in the sign of Leo along with Mercury and Venus; Pitra Dosh may be formed in such horoscope. This type of Pitra Dosh may be more intense than the type of Pitra Dosh mentioned in the previous example, and accordingly the native may suffer from different and intense type of problems in his marriage. The native suffering from such Pitra Dosh may physically abuse and even injure his wife many times during his marriage and he may be provoked by his father to do so, in most such cases. If such Pitra Dosh is very strong in the horoscope of this native and there is no grace saving planet in his horoscope, the worst may happen. Provoked by his father, the native under the malefic impact of such Pitra Dosh may kill his wife in a fit of rage or through a planned murder, depending on the overall tone of his horoscope.
Looking at some other reasons for the formation of this type of Pitra Dosh, the natives who didn’t complete the after death ceremonies of their forefathers may suffer from this defect. It should be noted that Pitra Dosh is defined as the curse of ancestors by many astrologers; which is not true in most cases of Pitra Dosh. However it may be true in this particular case of Pitra Dosh as the natives suffering from this type of Pitra Dosh may not have performed the after death rituals for their father or forefathers in their past lives, due to which their father or forefathers were not able to receive the benefits of these rituals and they had to suffer during their afterlife journeys. Hence they cursed these native and that curse may appear as Pitra Dosh formed by Sun in their horoscopes. The natives having this type of Pitra Dosh in their horoscopes may either not have children or they may have to suffer a lot due to various problems related to their children or due to problems given by their children.
For example, some natives suffering from this type of Pitra Dosh may give birth to physically or mentally incapable children and these natives may have to attend to these children, throughout their lives. These natives under the malefic impact of such Pitra Dosh may have to spend significant amount of money, resources and time in order to take care of their troubled children. Some other natives suffering from such Pitra Dosh may give birth to children who may prove their enemies in disguise and who may start troubling these natives right from their early childhood on account of their bad behavior, trouble causing attitude, engagement in bad company and other such habits. These children generally cause the downfall of these natives’ family lines due to the malefic impact of such Pitra Dosh.
The children of some natives troubled by such Pitra Dosh may fall into bad company and they may waste most of these natives’ hard earned money in bad habits like gambling, drinking, drugs, excessive indulgence in sexual activities and other such vices. In some extreme cases where such Pitra Dosh is very strong, such children may commit some serious criminal offences due to which they may have to spend many years of their lives in prisons, which may bring great social disgrace and long lasting troubles for these natives, due to the malefic impact of such Pitra Dosh.
The children of these natives suffering from this type of Pitra Dosh are the ancestors of these natives from one of their previous lives, and these ancestors are settling their karmic accounts with these natives. The quantum of problems suffered by each native of this type may be different and it is dependent on the strength of such Pitra Dosh in their horoscopes, where such strength is dependent on the amount of troubles caused by these natives to their ancestors in their past lives.
Similarly, Pitra Dosh formed by malefic Sun in a horoscope can be present due to various other reasons which are dependent on the types of bad karmas done by the native in his past lives; and which are related to the significances of the Sun. The kind of bad karmas done by a native related to some specific significances of Sun can be judged from the kind of troubles, problems and misfortunes that the native may suffer in this life due to the malefic influence of this type of Pitra Dosh. In cases where the natives troubled by this type of Pitra Dosh had committed bad karmas of mild or medium strength related to the significances of Sun in their past lives, Pitra Dosh of mild or medium strength may be formed in their horoscopes. Such Pitra Dosh may trouble them in some spheres of their lives but it is not likely to do big damages.
On the other hand, the natives who may have engaged in strong or extreme type of bad karmas related to the significances of Sun in their past lives; are likely to suffer from strong Pitra Dosh which may trouble them a lot. For example, if a native had killed his father for any reason during his past life, strong Pitra Dosh may be formed by malefic Sun in his horoscope. As a result, the native under the malefic impact of such Pitra Dosh may either get killed by his own father, or his father may provoke him to engage in a serious type of crime, the native may commit such crime and he may have to spend his entire life in prison or he may even face a death penalty.

Doing suitable remedies can certainly help reduce the strength of this defect and the native may witness better or much better results in the spheres of his life, which are affected by Pitra Dosh in his horoscope.
