In the previous chapter, we have read that Sun is one of the two most important planets among navagraha and the other planet is Moon. The importance of this planet called Moon can’t be explained in words and it carries such great importance that it is more important than even Sun in some cases. This is due to the fact that Moon rules the mind and as we know, mind is the most powerful entity in the whole personality of a native. It is our mind only which can make us create some of the most wonderful things; and the same mind can make us create some of the worst things. This is what makes Moon the most important planet in a horoscope and this is why Vedic astrology puts so much emphasis on Moon, that some of its most important concepts are based on Moon and its motion or placement in different houses, signs and nakshatras.
For example, the sign of placement of Moon in a horoscope is called the birth sign of the native, which is commonly known as Raashi in Vedic astrology. To simplify the term, if Moon is placed in the sign of Gemini in the birth horoscope of a native, Gemini is called the Raashi of the native. Similarly, the nakshatra in which Moon is placed in the birth chart of a native is called the birth nakshatra of the native. To simplify it, if Moon is placed in the sign of Gemini in the birth chart of a native and within the sign of Gemini, it is placed in the nakshatra of Punarvasu which is seventh among 27 nakshatras, the Raashi of the native is Gemini and the birth nakshatra of the native is Punarvasu.
Going further, the ancient Indian system of match making gives so much importance to Moon that a great part of this system is based on the process of Gun Milaan which is a process based on Moon and Moon only. In the process of Gun Milaan, certain specific calculations are done to assign a score to the couple, where such score ranges from 1 to 36. This score is calculated by finding the mutual compatibility of the Moon signs as well as birth nakshatras of both the natives involved in such match making. A score above 18 is considered good and as it goes higher, it becomes better and better; with 36 out of 36 being the best.
This is due to the fact that the ancient system of match making was based on the phrase that Marriage is a union of two minds. As Moon rules the mind, it carries great importance in the process of Gun Milaan. Though there are many other concepts of Vedic astrology where Moon is given great importance, I guess the point I want to convey has been conveyed. So let’s move to the original topic of Pitra Dosh formed by Moon in a horoscope and see what can happen in this case.
Moon is a general signifier for mind, mother and all motherly or old ladies, people dealing in medical professions like doctors, nurses, chemists and other such kind of people, large bodies of water and especially clean water; and many other important things. When Moon is working negatively in a horoscope which means that Moon is malefic in such horoscope and it afflicts Sun by virtue of its placement in some house of the horoscope along with Sun, Pitra Dosh is formed in the horoscope due to malefic Moon. Similarly, if malefic and fully active Moon is placed in the ninth house of a horoscope or it is placed with the lord of the ninth house in a horoscope, Pitra Dosh is formed in the horoscope. Pitra Dosh formed by Moon can trouble the native with many kinds of problems which may differ from person to person depending on the overall tone of their horoscopes.
The natives who didn’t respect and obey their mothers and who troubled their mothers on account of one thing or the other in their past lives are likely to have this type of Pitra Dosh in their horoscopes. Such Pitra Dosh is formed due to the curse of the mother, which is inflicted on the native due to the bad karmas done by him towards his mother in his past life. The strength and field of impact of this type of Pitra Dosh may vary from horoscope to horoscope depending on the quantum of bad karmas done by the native to hurt his mother in his past life.
For example, the presence of this type of Pitra Dosh in the seventh house of a horoscope can indicate that the native and some of his ancestors may have troubled and tortured their mothers in order to please their wives in their past lives or they may have remained silent when their wives tortured their mothers in their past lives. Accordingly, malefic Moon afflicts Sun in the seventh house of the horoscope forming Pitra Dosh which can lead to very disturbed or completely destroyed married life of the native. This is simply due to the fact that such native wrongfully tortured and troubled his mother in order to lead a happy married life by pleasing his wife in his past life. Accordingly, the happiness of the native through marriage is cursed in this life, and his mother may become the root cause of such problems, as Moon is the former of such Pitra Dosh in his horoscope.
The kind of problems faced by a native suffering from this type of Pitra Dosh as well as the quantum of those problems depends on the type and quantum of bad karmas done by the native towards his mother in his past life. In case where a native may have troubled his mother in his past life with the intensity which may be called medium, Pitra Dosh of medium strength may be formed in the horoscope of this native. Such Pitra Dosh may cause problems in the marriage of the native where the root cause of these problems may be the bad equation between the mother and the wife of this native; and the wife may suffer a lot due to such bad equation. In case where such Pitra Dosh is strong or very strong, it can make the native engage in extreme type of bad things or immoral acts towards his wife, and the mother of this native may provoke him to engage in such acts.
For example, if malefic Moon is placed in the seventh house of a horoscope along with Sun in the sign of Aquarius, Pitra Dosh may be formed in the horoscope of the native. The native under the malefic impact of such Pitra Dosh may suffer from a troubled marriage as he may have a bad equation with his wife; and the mother of this native may play a significant role in making this equation bad. If such Pitra Dosh becomes strong or if it gains the support of other malefic planets in his horoscope, the native may suffer much more. For instance, if malefic debilitated Jupiter is placed in the sixth house of this horoscope in the sign of Capricorn along with malefic Venus and exalted Mars; when a malefic combination of Moon and Sun forms Pitra Dosh in the seventh house of this horoscope, the problem may aggravate.
The native troubled by such Pitra Dosh and other malefic planets may engage in heated arguments, verbal fights and even in physical fights with his wife and he may physically hurt his wife many times. It should be noted that the mother of this native may provoke him to engage in all such acts of violence towards his wife and the native under the malefic impact of such Pitra Dosh and other malefic planets may keep troubling his wife more and more, in order to please his mother, just like he troubled his mother in order to please his wife in his past life. The malefic impact of such Pitra Dosh and other malefic planets may not let this native enjoy his marriage at all, at least till the time his mother is alive; and the couple may only find understanding after the death of the mother of this native.
If such Pitra Dosh becomes very strong in this example, the native may hit his wife so bad that she may get seriously injured and she may have to be hospitalized for a long period of time. It should be noted that in a case like this where the native and his wife may have troubled his mother in his past life, the mother of this native may also come to this native and his wife in the form of their daughter in law. In such case, the native suffering from this type of Pitra Dosh may have the same woman as his wife in this life as he had in his previous life, and their son may get married to the woman who may be the mother of this native in his past life. The daughter in law of this native may trouble him as well as his wife in many possible ways and the quantum of such troubles depends on the quantum of problems given by the native and his wife to his mother in the past life.
Looking at some other possibilities, the presence of this type of Pitra Dosh in a horoscope may indicate that the native as one of his ancestors may have troubled his mother in many other possible ways for a long period of time in his past life. Hence malefic Moon may form Pitra Dosh in the horoscope of the native, which may trouble him in many spheres of his life depending on the overall tone of his horoscope. For example, if malefic Moon is placed in the sixth house of a horoscope in the sign of Libra along with debilitated Sun, Pitra Dosh may be formed in the horoscope. The native troubled by such Pitra Dosh may have serious differences of opinion with his mother and his mother may keep torturing him mentally, by criticizing most things he does.
The malefic impact of such Pitra Dosh also indicates that the mother of this native may suffer from health problems and the native may have to spend money and time towards the treatment of such health problems. The amount of time, effort and money spent by this native suffering from such Pitra Dosh towards the treatment of health problems faced by his mother depend on the quantum of bad karmas done by the native towards his mother in his past life. If such Pitra Dosh is strong and it receives support from other malefic planets in this horoscope, the native may have to serve his ill mother for more than 20 years.
Such native may have to spend a lot of money, time and effort towards the treatment of serious health conditions that his mother may suffer from; and he may only be relieved of this debt, when his mother dies. It should be note that due to the malefic impact of such Pitra Dosh, the native is not likely to receive much appreciation from his mother, for all the efforts done by him to take care of his mother during her illness. On the contrary, she may keep criticizing the native that he is not taking as good care of her, as he should be; or he is not getting her the best possible treatment for her disease.
The natives suffering from this type of Pitra Dosh are likely to live with their mothers for very long periods of their lives or till the death of their mothers. These natives may either have to serve their mothers a lot due to their illness or due to some other reasons, or they may have to face many types of problems due to their mothers, depending on their overall horoscopes. This way, they have to keep paying the karmic debts of their mothers where the quantum of such debts depends on the quantum of bad karmas done by these natives towards their mothers in their past lives.
A similar type of Pitra Dosh can also form in a horoscope which can indicate problems coming from other mother like ladies like maternal grandmother, paternal grandmother, wife of paternal uncle of native, wife of maternal uncle of native and other such females. In all the cases of this type of Pitra Dosh, the native may suffer on the hands of some of the above mentioned female relatives; who are the causes of formation of this type of Pitra Dosh or who were troubled by the native in one of his previous lives as his ancestor.
Moving ahead, Moon also signifies the people dealing in medical fields such as doctors, nurses and other such professionals. Accordingly, the formation of Pitra Dosh in a horoscope due to affliction of malefic Moon may indicate that the native who was dealing in a medical profession in his past life didn’t attend to his patients in right and just way due to which some or many patients of the native suffered on account of ignorant attitude of the native. The curse of such people leads to the formation of Pitra Dosh in the horoscope of the native in his present life and he may suffer from various types of problems depending on the strength of such Pitra Dosh and on the overall tone of the horoscope of this native.
The natives under the malefic impact of this type of Pitra Dosh usually suffer from medical problems which may keep bothering them for very long periods of time. Some of these natives may get afflicted by permanent diseases which may not be curable and which may keep bothering these natives till the end of their lives. This again is an indication that a native who didn’t willingly cure people in his past life when it was his duty; may now be subjected to a disease and he may have to suffer due to such disease. The quantum of pain given by such disease to the native suffering from such Pitra Dosh depends on the strength of such Pitra Dosh which is further dependent on the quantum of bad karmas done by this native in his past life.
For example, the formation of this type of Pitra Dosh in the sixth house of a horoscope can make the native suffer from a disease which may be permanent in nature and which may not only trouble the native till the end of his life, but it may also reduce his lifespan. If such Pitra Dosh is strong and it receives support from other malefic planets in a horoscope, the native troubled by it may suffer from a fatal disease which may kill him at a young age after afflicting a lot of pain on him. Some other natives suffering from this type of Pitra Dosh may get afflicted with psychological disorders and they may have to spend many years of their lives in mental asylums. Here again, the type of disease witnessed by the native suffering from this type of Pitra Dosh and the quantum of such disease are dependent on the type and quantum of bad karmas committed by the native in his past life, as his ancestor. The theory of karmas and their fruits rules supreme and no one can escape the fruits of their good or bad karmas.
Moon also relates to large bodies of water and accordingly the formation of Pitra Dosh by Moon in a horoscope can also indicate bad karmas done by the native as his ancestor in his past life; towards water bodies or he may have done bad karmas related to water. Accordingly the native may suffer from Pitra Dosh formed by malefic Moon in his horoscope; and he may face many types of problems which can give indications about the kind of bad karmas done by the native in his past lives. For example, the formation of this type of Pitra Dosh in the sign of Cancer or Scorpio in the sixth or eighth house of a horoscope can indicate that the native may have indulged in intentional abuse or contamination of water bodies in his past lives and accordingly this type of Pitra Dosh is formed in his horoscope of present life.
Such Pitra Dosh may trouble the native with some diseases which may be transmitted through water or which may be caused due to water element in the body. For example, some natives suffering from this type of Pitra Dosh may suffer from the problem of water retention, some of these natives may suffer from excessive fluid loss from their bodies, some others may have urine related problems and some of them may suffer from other types of problems related to or caused by fluids. In case where such Pitra Dosh is strong and it is supported by other malefic planets, the native under its impact may get afflicted by a fatal disease like some type of cancer, and such disease may be caused due to consuming contaminated water for many years.
Another native suffering from such strong Pitra Dosh formed by Moon may get some type of poison injected into his body through a fluid, and he may suffer a lot due to such poison; or he may even die. Once again, whether a native may suffer from health problems caused due to prolonged use of contaminated water or he may die by virtue of poison inserted into his body through a fluid; depends on the type and strength of such Pitra Dosh, which is further dependent on the type and quantum of bad karmas committed by the native in his past life, as one of his ancestors.
Vedic astrology is equipped with many remedies that can reduce the strength of Pitra Dosh formed in a horoscope. These remedies include the application of gemstones, yantras, poojas and charities. Doing suitable remedies can certainly help reduce the strength of this defect and the native may witness better or much better results in the spheres of his life, which are affected by Pitra Dosh in his horoscope.
