Twelfth House of Horoscope

The twelfth house of horoscope is called Vyaya Bhava in Vedic astrology. Looking at its characteristics/significances; the twelfth house represents foreign lands, hospitals, ashrams, refugee camps, prisons, sleep, dreams, imaginations, fantasies, perversions, mediation, creativity, spiritual growth, liberation, paranormal, supernatural, the occult, mysteries, illusions, expenditures, losses, delays, addictions, vices, confusions, fears, phobias, insecurities, secret missions, investigations and many other things.

It is interesting to see that the house which represents sleep, dreams, imagination, illusions and losses; represents liberation. From spiritual point of view, all that is happening around you is real in some sense and it is illusionary in some sense. While you are sleeping and dreaming, your subconscious mind is attached to all the events and imaginations happening in such dream. Whatever experiences you may witness during such dream may feel absolutely real as long as you are in such dream. Once you are awake, the dreams is gone and you realize that it was all an illusion and nothing else.

Hence if you suffer a lot in dream, the suffering sustains as long as such dream continues. Once the dream is gone, so is the suffering. Likewise, if you become a billionaire and you enjoy wonderful things in a dream; all such money and pleasures remain there as long as the dream continues. Once the dream is gone, so are the billions and the pleasures bought with such billions. Whether you experience an extremely good dream or an extremely bad dream; a couple of things are common in both types of experiences.

The first one is the fact that you enjoyed or suffered as long as such dream continued. The second one is the fact that no matter how good or bad a dream is; it may not affect your physical or conscious reality.

Whether such dreams are good or bad; they’re gone as soon as you wake up. Hence you may call them illusions. In the same way, the higher spiritual wisdom considers everything that happens in your physical life like an illusion or like a dream. Everything that happens here is real and meaningful as long as you are a part of it. The moment you die, it’s all gone. Just like you remain intact if you die in a dream; your real essence remains intact, even if your physical body dies.

In this sense, the journey of a specific lifetime may be seen as a specific dream. Everything is real and it affects you as long as you are living this dream. Everything is gone, the moment you die. Just like you don’t die in reality when you die in a dream; you also don’t die when you die at the end of a specific physical life. Just like you may find out that a dream however good or bad was an illusion after waking up; you may find out that everything that happened during a specific lifetime was illusion. Just like the dreamer remains unaffected by the experiences of dream in a bigger sense, your essence also remains unaffected by the experiences of a lifetime.

When we look at it like this, life as well as dream is real in some sense and it is illusionary in some sense. It is real as long as it is happening and it becomes an illusion the moment it ceases to exist. This concept has been explained in details in the book ‘Pitra Dosh – Ancestors are Calling (Revised Edition)’.

As long as you’re a traveller on the path of liberation; there may be no blessing like the strong influence of the twelfth house. However if your journey is that of materialism; like most people; the twelfth house may become a very difficult to handle house. If the eleventh house represents ambition or desire; the twelfth house represents the opposite; which means the loss of ambition or desire. Without ambition or desire; you may grow a lot in spiritual field but you may not be able to do so in the material world. Hence in the deepest sense, the twelfth house may not take away your ability to achieve; it may take away your ambition or desire to achieve. For a person living for material goals; all is lost if ambition or desire is lost.

When the final battle for liberation begins in the twelfth house; a soul may go through experiences lying on the opposite extremes. It means you may completely feel uninterested in every material thing or you may dive deep into all types of fantasies, perversions, addictions and vices. The twelfth house is free from all conditions and the atmosphere is almost always extreme in this house. Which extreme you may touch or live on; depends on your evolutionary status; which is represented by your horoscope. One may have to live certain things to the fullest before he is able to give them up for good; by finding irrelevance in them through experiences. Hence the twelfth house represents a number of such extreme phenomena. It is a no-limit house and anything can happen here.

The twelfth house is a difficult house and placements of weak, malefic, troubled or difficult planets in this house may create problems related to profession, marriage, spiritual growth, black magic, delays, losses, unfortunate events, addictions, vices, mental health and a number of other problems; depending on the overall theme of horoscope under consideration.

Eleventh House of Horoscope

The eleventh house of horoscope is called Labh Bhava or Labhsthan in Vedic astrology. Looking at its characteristics/significances; the eleventh house represents profession, financial gains, increments, expansions, friends, associates, networks, economies, stock markets, sudden gains, profits, goals, ambitions, desires, greed and many other things.

The eleventh house may prove a difficult to handle house at times. This is because the eleventh house creates strong tendencies for materialistic gains. Hence the placement of malefic or unsuitable planets in this house in a horoscope can make the native over-ambitious and greedy. As a result, such native may not care much about moral values, sanity and laws; when it comes to make money. The primary objective of such native may be to make more and more money and in doing so; he may not care about principals or laws.

Due to this reason, strong influence of the eleventh house may produce gamblers in various spheres of life. Some of these gamblers may play for money, some of them may play for fame, some others may play for love and some of them may play for luxuries and comforts; depending on their overall horoscopes. The natives under strong and specific influence of the eleventh house may be some of the biggest risk takers and they may go to any limits in order to achieve their goals.

This may not pose serious problems as long as such goals are healthy. However, this tendency may create serious problems when such goals are unhealthy, selfish or unrealistic. A gambler who keeps playing even after winning a lot; only to lose in the end; is very likely to be under the strong influence of the eleventh house.

All practices like gambling, stock markets, betting, lotteries, horse-races and other such practices which have the potential to give instant and big financial gains are ruled by the eleventh house. It is easy to see that all these practices or fields operate on the basis of high ambition and greed. If you are willing to place a bet in order to win 10 times the money; even when your chances of winning are 1 in 15; greed is highly likely to be the primary element behind this practice.

Likewise, all other practices which operate on the basis of greed or over-ambitiousness may be related to the eleventh house. Since greed and over-ambitiousness may often result in negative outcomes in the long run; the eleventh house may not be an easy to handle house. Hence an empowered eleventh house in a horoscope must be supported by the overall horoscope; in order for the native to keep the tendencies given by this house in check. Without suitable horoscopes; even benefic planets placed in the eleventh house may end up creating more problems than benefits in the long run.

It may be now easy to understand that placements of malefic planets in the eleventh house may often make the native engage in immoral, illegal or greedy activities. Though such native may witness gains in the short run, if his overall horoscope is supportive; he may witness serious losses or problems in the long run. Since a large number of criminals engage in various types of crimes, primarily for financial gains and to enjoy luxuries; eleventh house may have the highest rate of producing criminals among all 12 houses of horoscope. Ambition and greed are already there in the eleventh house and all that is needed is a planet which may be willing to fall for such greed and ambition.

Therefore, strong influence of eleventh house may produce majority of the legitimate richest people in the world; and it may also produce majority of the richest criminals in the world; depending on their overall horoscopes. The common factor between these two classes is the ambition to achieve more and more. The factor which separates these two classes is the ability to make distinction about how far is too far.

It means the former class may be able to make this distinction and hence the natives in this class may not cross certain specific lines in order to fulfill their ambitions. On the other hand, the latter class of natives may not draw any lines and they may often go too far in order to fulfill their ambitions and desires. Hence the former class may earn money through legitimate means, whereas the latter class may earn money through whichever means may be available.

The eleventh house is generally a comfortable house and every planet among navagraha may produce benefic results when placed in it; provided such planet itself is benefic. Placements of malefic planets in this house may create problems related to profession, finances, reputation, friends, associates, stock markets, gambling practices and a number of other problems; depending on the overall theme of horoscope under consideration.

Tenth House of Horoscope

The tenth house of horoscope is called Karma Bhava or Karmasthana in Vedic astrology. Looking at its characteristics/significances; the tenth house represents profession, reputation, public image, visibility, credibility, fame, recognition, authority and many other things.

Profession is primarily represented by the tenth house though it is also represented by the first, third and eleventh house. The tenth and eleventh house both represent profession but the need to engage in profession or the primary motive is different in case of each one of these houses. The tenth house represents the need to engage in profession, which may rise in order to earn sufficient money and/or gain authority, recognition, status and other likewise things. On the other hand, the eleventh house represents the need to engage in profession; primarily for more and more money and secondarily for expanding professional network. In the process, it may render fame and/or visibility but they are by-products in most cases. Hence the former is focused more on achieving recognition and authority whereas the latter is focused more on money and networking.

For this reason, natives under strong influence of tenth house may engage in professions which may offer high visibility, authority, reputation and status; but which may or may not promise significant/large amounts of money. Such natives may practice as government officers working in various departments, high authority politicians, ministers, chief ministers, prime ministers, presidents, kings, queens and other heads of states.

On the other hand, natives under strong influence of eleventh house may engage in professions which may offer more and more money; but which may or may not promise authority, recognition and status. Such natives may practice as various types of businessmen who may make millions or billions through their respective businesses. However, many of them may not have authority, recognition and visibility. The former type of natives often work in high visibility professions whereas the latter type of natives are happy working in the background.

Drawing a comparison; an actor under strong influence of tenth house may primarily wish to achieve recognition though he may earn significant/large amounts of money in the process. Hence such actor may choose roles which give him scope to exhibit his acting skills, which are meaningful, which may leave impact on the crowds and which may win him awards. Though he may earn a lot of money; it may not be his primary objective. Hence the focus here is on recognition, credibility and authority.

Compared to this, an actor under strong influence of eleventh house may primarily wish to earn more and more money and he may not be focused much on achieving recognition, awards and other likewise things. Hence he’s more likely to focus on typical commercial type of movies which may do well or very well on box-office but which may not give him much scope as an actor. One such actor may earn billions but the number of meaningful/impactful roles played by him may not be high or even significant. The latter one may be happy being a part of movies loaded with film-stars since they may have better chances of doing well.

On the other hand, the former type of actor may be more willing to act in movies where he’s the only hero. Such movies may give him much more scope to prove himself as an actor. He may be held responsible for success as well as failure of such movies, being the lead star. However, he may be happy taking this risk/responsibility due to the influence of the tenth house. Hence tenth house is more likely to produce leaders or authoritative figures in various fields of profession whereas the eleventh house is more likely to produce moneymakers/opportunists in various fields of profession.

The tenth house is a comfortable house and every planet among navagraha may produce benefic results when placed in it; provided such planet itself is benefic. Placements of malefic planets in this house may create problems related to profession, reputation, authority, public image, status and a number of other problems; depending on the overall theme of horoscope under consideration.

Ninth House of Horoscope

The ninth house of horoscope is called Dharma Bhava in Vedic astrology; and it is also called Bhagya Bhava. Looking at its characteristics/significances; the ninth house represents father, guru, ancestors, creativity, spiritual growth, ethics, luck factor, faith, religion, traditions, temples, holy places, higher education, universities, philosophy, international affairs, tours, travels, writings and many other things.

Though the fourth house also represents education, it represents secondary or somewhat more than secondary education; say up to graduation. The ninth house represents higher education. This house also represents education in the field of religion, philosophy, divinity and other higher forms of education.

The traditions represented by the ninth house are different than those represented by the second and fourth house. Ninth house deals with religious traditions and it doesn’t deal with traditions related to families, communities or countries.

However, the traditions coming from family line, which are being followed for many generations, say for more than ten generations; reflect through the ninth house. This is because such traditions may be strongly associated with ancestors. Taking an example, if at least one member of a family engages in the field of medical science as a tradition since 2 or 3 generations; such tradition may reflect through the second house. However, if a native is born in a family line which has a tradition of producing doctors in each generation for more than 10 generations, such tradition may reflect through the ninth house. A common example of this type belongs to Pandits (Hindu Priests) who may have been practicing in their fields for more than 10, 20 or 30 generations; even in present times.

When it comes to the fourth house, it represents traditions formed by communities, states or countries. For example, if you stand up when the national anthem of your country is played; it is a tradition given by the fourth house. Similarly, if people in your community are allowed to marry their cousins and some other likewise relatives; this tradition is represented by the fourth house.

It should be noted that if a religion allows its followers to marry their cousins and some other likewise family members; this tradition is represented by the ninth house. Similarly, if your religion asserts that you should get married to someone who belongs to the same religion only; this tradition is also represented by the ninth house.

On the same line, when people show tendencies to engage in wars or violent actions for the sake of their religions; such tendencies reflect through the ninth house. Compared to this, when people show tendencies to engage in wars or violent actions for the sake of their families, communities, states or countries; such tendencies reflect through the fourth house. It means the ninth house tends to make you religious whereas the fourth house tends to give you patriotism.

The ninth house represents luck factor which is one of the most important characteristics exhibited by this house. Whenever the ninth house is afflicted by one or more than one malefic planet; Pitra Dosh is formed in the horoscope. It means the luck factor may turn malefic for the native; or such luck factor may not be able to produce benefic results. It is interesting to see that the house which represents the ancestors; represents luck factor also. As already seen, luck is the sum total of the karmas done in the past; and the past belongs to the ancestors. Hence ancestors and luck factor have a strong connection through the past. This concept has been explained in the book ‘Pitra Dosh – Ancestors are Calling (Revised Edition)’.

The ninth house is a comfortable house and every planet among navagraha may produce benefic results when placed in it; provided such planet itself is benefic. Placements of malefic planets in this house may create problems related to father, religious growth, spiritual growth, luck factor, higher education, ethics, faith, international affairs and a number of other problems; depending on the overall theme of horoscope under consideration.

Seventh House of Horoscope

The seventh house of horoscope is called Yuvati Bhava in Vedic astrology. Looking at its characteristics/significances; the seventh house represents event of marriage, happiness in marriage, longevity of marriage, husband, wife, partnerships, alliances, large intestine, genitals, sexual acts and many other things.

The seventh house deals with the event of marriage or timing of marriage, which means it indicates during what age the native may get marriage. This house also represents happiness in marriage as well as longevity of marriage. These are three different aspects of marriage and a horoscope may be blessed with one, two or three of them. For example, a native may get married at proper age if the first aspect is fine. However, he may suffer from bad marriage and such marriage may break; when the other two aspects are not good in his horoscope.

Taking another case, a native may get marriage at proper age and he may even enjoy good marriage. However, his husband or wife may be lost through an unfortunate event like death; if the third aspect is not good in his marriage. Hence the sphere of marriage may be called blessed when all three factors are good in a horoscope.

The seventh house also deals with partnerships as well as with partners. Marriage is also a kind of partnership and husband/wife is also a partner. The partnership represented by the seventh house is based on mutual gains and trust; and it doesn’t represent selfless partnership or love on its own. Hence the seventh house represents business partners, project partners, room partners, dance partners, professional partners and many other types of partners with shared or common interests. However, it doesn’t represent true lovers or friends. This is because friendship in its truest sense means a bond without the thought of profit and loss; and a bond which doesn’t include mutual interests.

The seventh house deals with relationships based on mutual interests where both parties are supposed to benefit as well as share responsibilities. Hence the partnerships, pairs or alliances represented by the seventh house may deal in mutual profitability, loyalty and fairness; but they may not deal in selfless acts of love. It may be easy to understand that all types of partnerships and alliances but marriage are based on mutual gains. When it comes to marriage; it may look like a bond formed out of love in case of love marriages.

However in reality, it is a contract or an agreement between two parties. Love is selfless and it never focuses on profits, losses, terms, conditions, promises and vows. A mother may love her children selflessly and she may ask or expect nothing in return. This is an example of love. Since the event of marriage itself includes a number of promises, conditions or vows to be fulfilled by both parties; it is not an act of love. It is a partnership based on mutual gains as well as on mutual responsibilities. Hence no marriage in the deepest sense is conducted out of pure love though marriage may lead to pure love in some cases.

This means that though you form a partnership focused on mutual interests when you get married; you may actually fall in love with your partner over a period of years. If that happens; the relationship starts as a contract or partnership and it turns into love. If that happens to a native; the seventh house, the lord of the seventh house or the general signifier for marriage in his or her horoscope may be under strong influence of astrological energies which promote pure love. Therefore, the seventh house on its own can’t bring love to a marriage and such love has to come from somewhere else in a horoscope.

The seventh house is a comfortable house and every planet among navagraha may produce benefic results when placed in it; provided such planet itself is benefic. Placements of malefic planets in this house may create problems related to event of marriage, longevity of marriage, quality of marriage, husband, wife, partnerships, sexual relationships, genitals, large intestine and a number of other problems; depending on the overall theme of horoscope under consideration.

Sixth House of Horoscope

The sixth house of horoscope is called Ari Bhava in Vedic astrology; and it is also called Shatru Bhava. Looking at its characteristics/significances; the sixth house represents domestic servants, manual workers, stomach, small intestine, service, servitude, slavery, diseases, disputes, delays, difficulties, challenges, disagreements, arguments, litigations, court cases, financial debts, enemies, crime and a number of other things.

It can be seen from these characteristics that the sixth house is a difficult to handle house. Hence it is generally considered as a malefic house. However, there are two sides of every coin. The same holds true in case of the sixth house also.

The sixth house represents diseases but this characteristic can go both ways. It means the influence of sixth house or its lord can make you suffer from various types of health issues and diseases, if your overall horoscope is not capable of handling the energy of this house. On the other hand, the sixth house or its lord can make you a doctor who treats and cures diseases of other people; if your horoscope can properly channelize the energy of this house. In the same way, this house can make you an astrologer, consultant or some other likewise professional who deals with problems. The concept of malefic houses and their lords giving benefic results has been explained in the chapter ‘Vipreet Rajyoga’ of the book ‘Important Yogas in Vedic Astrology (Revised Edition)’.

Crime is represented by the sixth house though it may be represented by other houses and planets also. In this case also, there are three options. The influence of this house can make you a criminal or it can make you a sufferer who is troubled by a criminal or criminals. As the third option, it can make you engage in professions which fight against crime and disorder. Hence natives under the influence of the sixth house may become police officers, army officer and other types of defence officers who fight against crime, who try to maintain law and order; and who try to keep people safe and secure. Whether the influence of the sixth house turns you into a criminal, a sufferer or a professional fighting such crimes; depends on your overall horoscope. If your overall horoscope is strong enough to handle the energy of this house, you may become an officer.

Likewise, the sixth house deals with disputes, disagreements and court cases. Here again, the influence of this house can make you a party in one such dispute or court case, it can make you a lawyer who represents a dispute or court case or it can make you a judge who handles such dispute or court case. Once again, what you may become due to the influence of the sixth house depends on your overall horoscope.

The sixth house deals with financial debts, disagreements and other types of problems. Hence it has the potential to make you suffer from financial debts, problems due to disagreements or disputes and other types of problems. At the same time, it can make you a banker, a professional who deals in providing financial loans or a consultant who helps resolve disputes and disagreements. Here again, what you may become depends on your overall horoscope.

Though the sixth house can render good as well as bad results; it is generally called a malefic house. This is due to the reason that the energy of this house is difficult to handle and most people may not be able to channelize it properly. As a result, such energy may do what it wishes and it may end up creating various types of problems. This is why it is called a malefic house and its lord is considered malefic in horoscope. However, this house as well as its lord is fully capable of behaving positively; when supported by the overall horoscope. This concept has been explained in the chapter ‘Vipreet Rajyoga’ of the book ‘Important Yogas in Vedic Astrology (Revised Edition)’.

The sixth house is a difficult house and placements of weak, malefic, troubled or difficult planets in this house may create problems related to disputes, disagreements, difficulties, court cases, finances, debts, enemies, diseases, profession, marriage and a number of other problems; depending on the overall theme of horoscope under consideration.

Fifth House of Horoscope

The fifth house of horoscope is called Putra Bhava in Vedic astrology; and it is also called Santaan Bhava. Looking at its characteristics/significances; the fifth house represents children, gall bladder, pancreas, love affairs, romance, entertainment, knowledge, intelligence, ability to discriminate, calculated speculations, creativity, fame, spiritual growth, politics and many other things.

Though the fourth house represents education, it represents academic and/or traditional education in most cases. On the other hand, the fifth house represents education/knowledge which a native gains due to his own interest. Many times, such education is not traditional/academic and it may be different. Taking an example, if you pursue medical science in order to become a doctor; such education may primarily reflect through the fourth house.

On the other hand, all other types of knowledge which you may keep gaining due to your own interest may be represented by the fifth house. For instance, you may be a doctor but you may have significant/good amount of knowledge about astronomy, astrology, history, economy, politics, automobiles, sports, arts and/or other fields. If you have not achieved such knowledge as part of academic learning and you have gained it on your own; due to your interest in such fields; it is represented by the fifth house.

This house represents calculated speculations/investments. Drawing a comparison; the eleventh house deals with speculations which may not have much to do with calculations and which may primarily depend on luck. Hence the eleventh house represents gambling practices, lotteries, stock markets, bets and other likewise practices. On the other hand, the fifth house represents investments which may be made after due considerations as well as calculations.

For instance, if you’re investing in stock market for short-term gains say intraday-trading; this practice may be represented by the eleventh house. The risk factor is high and a lot depends on luck. On the other hand, if you invest in a stock for a year, two or more; after duly considering the future performance of such stock; based on its past performance as well as on the current circumstances; such investment is represented by the fifth house. In this case, you don’t depend on your luck to make or break you within a day; and you rather choose to wait for significant/long period of time; so that short-term setbacks may not affect you much.

When it comes to spiritual growth; the fifth, ninth and twelfth house may represent it. Spiritual growth/knowledge rendered by the twelfth house may be the one which you had gained in your recent past lives. Such knowledge/growth comes to you at appropriate time and you may not have to do much in order to achieve it. The ninth house may bless you with spiritual growth/knowledge through lineage. It means your father, grandfather or guru may have it and he may pass it on to you or he may help you a lot on this path. The ninth house deals with luck factor. It can be seen that in this case; luck may play a significant role in blessing you with such growth/knowledge. This is because you have to be lucky enough to be blessed with such father/guru.

When it comes to the fifth house; it represents spiritual growth which you may achieve; largely because of your own will and efforts. It means that spiritual growth rendered by the twelfth house is the easiest one since you don’t need to do much in order to achieve it and you may also not need father/guru to achieve it. This is because; such growth/knowledge has already been achieved/earned by you during your recent past lives. Hence it may come to you through intuition. Spiritual growth rendered by the ninth house requires effort on your part; along with luck. This is because despite having an enlightened father/guru; you may not achieve spiritual growth if you don’t make efforts. They can only show you the path and it is up to you to walk on such path. However, you’re lucky enough to have found such path.

When it comes to the fifth house; it may neither bless you with spiritual growth from past lives nor may it render such knowledge due to luck factor like through father/guru. You may have to do most of the job on your own. It means if the twelfth and ninth house are weak or not supportive for spiritual growth but the fifth house is strong and supportive; this is what may happen. You may not be blessed with spiritual growth achieved during past lives; where such growth/knowledge often comes through intuition. You may also not be able to find an enlightened guru since the ninth house is not supportive. In this case, you may have to do most of the job on your own; through the fifth house.

Hence you may achieve a lot of spiritual growth/knowledge in this case also; but most of it may come due to your own efforts; and it may take longer or much longer. If such is the case; it generally indicates that much was not achieved in this field during past lives and one such native is relatively new on the path of spiritualism.

The fifth house is a comfortable house and every planet among navagraha may produce benefic results when placed in it; provided such planet itself is benefic. Placements of malefic planets in this house may create problems related to love life, lover; birth of children, wellbeing of children; relationship with children, spiritual growth, knowledge, creativity, profession, financial losses and a number of other problems; depending on the overall theme of horoscope under consideration.

Fourth House of Horoscope

The fourth house of horoscope is called Matru Bhava in Vedic astrology; and it is also called Sukh Bhava. Looking at its characteristics/significances; the fourth house represents mother, chest, lungs, home, family, community, nation, traditions, beliefs, security, education, agriculture, properties, vehicles, mental health, emotional wellbeing, peace of mind and many other things.

The fourth house represents the inner layer of personality in general whereas the tenth house represents the outer layer of personality in general. It means the fourth house deals more with how you perceive and know yourself. On the other hand, the tenth house deals with how other people know or perceive you, through your actions and behaviour patterns. A number of times; these two sides of your personality may be different. It means you may try to look like someone you’re actually not; in order to impress certain people in certain specific ways. Such actions form your public image or outward image and these actions are reflected through the tenth house.

However, you generally don’t convince yourself to be someone that you are not; and you almost always know the inner layers of your personality; at any given point in time. This inner value reflects through the fourth house. Hence the fourth house is your private place whereas the tenth house is a public place where you perform. This is why the concept of home is associated with the fourth house since your home is your private place.

The family represented by the second house is your immediate family like your mother, father, brothers, sisters, wife and children. However, the family represented by the fourth house includes the relatives from your father’s side as well as the relatives from your mother’s side; and other relatives. It means the second house represents that branch of the family which directly belongs to you whereas the fourth house represents living members of your family tree. Hence the fourth house represents family on a much bigger level.

The fourth house also represents community. It can be seen that community in most cases is an expansion of family. It means your immediate community may include living members of your family tree and other likewise people. In the same way, a state or a country or a nation may also be considered as bigger expansion of the concept of family. The expression ‘this is my home country’ or ‘this country is my home’ directly relates to the fourth house since the concept of home belongs to the fourth house. Hence the fourth house deals with extended family on various levels. Highly evolved souls may see the whole world as their families. It means the fourth house has the capacity to expand the concept of family to any limits.

It can be seen that the fourth house is an important house since it represents the bigger version of you. This means that your family, your community, your state and your country may be bigger versions of you. In other words, you may be a smaller version of your country, state, community and family. It can be seen that the concept of security is primarily related to the wellbeing of the self, the family, the community, the state, the country and the world. This means you may feel insecure when you or your family faces risky or unfortunate situations. In the same way, you may feel insecure when bad event are happening in your community, state, country or in the world. For example, the current threat of COVID-19 or Corona Virus is making a large number of people across the world feel insecure since the world is collectively in danger.

The fourth house is a sensitive house and placements of malefic, troubled or difficult planets in this house may create problems related to mother, home, family, community, properties, vehicles, security, mental health, peace of mind, emotional wellbeing, marriage and a number of other problems; depending on the overall theme of horoscope under consideration.

Third House of Horoscope

The third house of horoscope is called Bandhu Bhava in Vedic astrology. Looking at its characteristics/significances; the third house represents brothers, sisters, shoulders, arms, ears, courage, communication, writings, messages, tours, travels, neighbours, profession, efforts, colleagues and teammates among other things.

Though profession is primarily represented by the tenth house; the first, third and eleventh house also represent it. Though all these houses represent profession, they do so differently, in their own unique ways. The tenth house represents the profession which is required as a general and basic need to obtain sufficient money, recognition and authority.

It means when you engage in profession under strong influence of the tenth house, you may engage in professions which may provide you with sufficient amount of money as well as with sufficient amount of recognition and authority. The focus here is on achieving these goals. Hence you may or may not like the profession you’re engaging in. At times, you may even dislike the profession you’re engaging in but you may still engage because it may give you the basic things mentioned earlier.

When you engage in profession under the strong influence of eleventh house, it is primarily because of the need for earning more and more money. The secondary need here is to connect with more and more people through your profession. Though the liking part is more than the tenth house in case of the eleventh house, it may still not be high. It means that through the eleventh house; you may engage in professions which you may not really like and you are in them for money and networking only. You may not dislike these professions but you may simply not like them much. This house focuses on money as well as networking and the need to do what you really want to do may not be strong here.

When it comes to the third house, the need to engage in profession rises due to your own interests, more than anything else. The focus here is on doing what you really want to do and the aspects like money, recognition, networking and authority go in the background. It doesn’t mean that you may not earn money, recognition and authority if you engage in profession under strong influence of the third house. It simply means you may engage in it primarily because of your wish to engage in it. When you do that, you may also earn good or very good amount of money, recognition, authority and expansion among other things. However, these things may come as by-products and they may not be the primary products. Hence you may choose to engage in a profession that you like and the rest may follow.

The first house is above all these houses and it has a league of its own. When you engage in a profession under strong influence of the first house, your profession may become your expression as well as your way of living. Though the third house also tends to make you engage in professions which you like; such liking is weaker compared to the first house. The first house represents a liking so strong that it becomes natural.

The third house is a comfortable house and every planet among navagraha may produce benefic results when placed in it; provided such planet itself is benefic. Placements of malefic planets in this house may create problems related to brothers, sisters, health, profession, colleagues, teammates, neighbours, communication and a number of other problems; depending on the overall theme of horoscope under consideration.

Second House of Horoscope

The second house of horoscope is called Dhan Bhava in Vedic astrology; and it is also called Kutumb Bhava. Looking at its characteristics/significances; the second house represents family, face, mouth, eyes, nose, lips, speech, money, wealth, financial management, memories, family traditions, family history, foods, eating and drinking habits; and many other things.

When it comes to money, there are four aspects related to it. These aspects are; money earned through profession, money earned or obtained through other sources, money spent and money saved. The tenth house represents the money as well as other things like reputation, success and recognition earned through profession. The eleventh house deals with money which may be earned through your primary profession and which may also be earned or obtained through other sources. Such sources include gifts, lotteries, bonuses, bets, stock markets, windfall gains and many other types of sources.

Through the tenth and eleventh house, money is earned/gain. Now it comes to spend this money. The twelfth house primarily deals with the spending part. Twelfth house is associated with losses. Even when you spend money of your own will; you lose it. Apart from the twelfth house, the eighth and sixth house also indicate loss of money. However in most cases; this is not the money that you may willingly spend. The sixth and eighth house indicate loss of money that you may have to spend or the money you may lose through various media like diseases, court cases, thefts, loans, robberies, accidents and unfortunate incidents.

In the first part you earn money and in the second part you spend or lose parts of it. The money which you are able to save after earning and spending or losing; is represented by the second house. Hence the second house represents your saved money, wealth, assets like gold and other precious metals or gemstones; and many other types of savings. However, the second house doesn’t represent properties and vehicles which are represented by the fourth house. Hence if the twelfth house is not troublesome and the second house is strong and healthy in a horoscope; the native may spend and save money wisely.

Let’s look at another characteristic of the second house. When it comes to traditions, the second house represents the traditions practiced or followed by your family line. Compared to this, the ninth house deals with the traditions practiced by the religion you follow. It means the traditions represented by the ninth house may include many traditions exhibited by the second house. This is because your family may follow a number of traditions which they have acquired from their religion. However, there may be some traditions which may exclusively belong to your family. These traditions in specific are represented by the second house. Taking an example, if it is a tradition in a family since two or three generations that one male member must join defence services; such tradition may be represented by the second house. The ninth house or the religion may not represent such traditions in general.

When it comes to family, the second house represents your living family members. Compared to this, the ninth house represents the family members who have died. An exception to this rule is your father who is represented by the ninth house, even when he is alive. Hence the ninth house deals with ancestors, with the exception of father.

Drawing a comparison, the houses like the third, fourth, fifth, seventh and ninth house represent the individual wellbeing and affairs of specific family members as long as they are alive. For example, the fourth house represents the wellbeing and affairs of mother as long as she is alive. Compared to this, the second house represents the collective wellbeing as well as collective affairs of the living family. It means if something bad is going to happen to your mother, it may reflect through the fourth house. Likewise, if something bad is going to happen to your wife, it may reflect through the seventh house. However, if something bad is going to happen to your family or within your family; it may reflect through the second house. It means that the problems or disasters which may affect the entire family are likely to reflect through the second house. Likewise, the problems happening within the family like disputes and separations may also reflect through the second house.

The second house is a comfortable house and every planet among navagraha may produce benefic results when placed in it; provided such planet itself is benefic. Placements of malefic planets in this house may create problems related to family, speech, communication, wealth, money, health, marriage and a number of other problems; depending on the overall theme of horoscope under consideration.
