Saturn Characteristics/Traits
Saturn is considered as a neutral planet according to most scriptures of Vedic astrology; though some astrologers are of the opinion that it is a male/masculine planet. In practice, it tends to give results which may be more masculine than feminine, in most cases. It is considered as a cold and dry planet. Some astrologers believe Saturn rules Vaata (element) whereas some others believe it represents earth element. In practice, it tends to give results related to both these elements; though it may be more inclined towards earth element in most cases.
Looking at its characteristics/traits/significances; it represents hard work, patience, perseverance, discipline, administrative skills, management skills, lawfulness, dutifulness, justice, analytical abilities, meditation, spiritual growth, wisdom, sincerity, authority, rational thinking, practical nature, governess, judgement, old people, blind people, properties, real estate and a number of other things and people.
Natives who have weak/afflicted Saturn in their horoscopes may suffer from problems like lack of discipline, patience, hard work, judgement; joint pains; problems related to bones/nerves, fractures, stamina, anxiety, restlessness, sleep disorders and a number of other problems. On the other hand, if Saturn is strong in a horoscope; the native may witness good results related to health, bones, nerves, joints, patience, discipline, authority, judgement, wisdom and a number of other things.
Natives under strong benefic influence of Saturn may have loads of patience, discipline, hard work and perseverance among other things. Hence they may wait for desired results for as long as it may take. No planet may be as good as Saturn when it comes to make consistent efforts over a long or very long period of time. Such natives may wait for as long as 10, 20, 30 or 40 years in order to achieve their desires goals while they may keep working to achieve them at the same time. Natives under strong influence of Saturn tend to be disciplined, patient and law abiding. Natives under strong influence of no other planet may be able to match them when it comes to follow law, rules and traditions. Such natives may strongly believe in traditions and they may try to protect them. They may respect rules made by society as well as laws of their states/countries; and they may try their best to follow them as well as to protect them.
Whatever potential they may have based on their horoscopes; they may not achieve even the half of it; before the age of 35. Saturn is the slowest among navagraha and it tends to give results late or very late. Hence most such natives may be able to witness their optimum potentials during the second halves of their lives. They may witness better results after 40 and even better after 50. Once they achieve success, they may be good at holding on to it. Hence they may rise late but their professional growth may be steady and stable. Such natives may do well or very well in profession whereas they may face problems in the sphere of relationship.

It may perform very well, well or poorly in Cancer, Scorpio, Sagittarius and Pisces; depending on its nakshatra and navamsha placements within these signs. It may perform poorly or very poorly in Aries and Leo; depending on its nakshatra and navamsha placements within these signs.
Taking an example, Saturn may perform relatively well when placed in Libra navamsha of Bharani nakshatra within the sign of Aries. However, it may perform very poorly when placed in Aries navamsha of Ashwini or Leo navamsha of Bharani nakshatra within the sign of Aries. Taking another example, Saturn may be very strong when placed in Capricorn or Aquarius navamsha of Uttarashada within the sign of Capricorn whereas it may be strong but not very strong when placed in Aries navamsha of Shravana nakshatra within the sign of Capricorn.
Affliction to Saturn from malefic planets may result in formation of various types of defects. On the other hand, benefic and clean Saturn may form good yogas in horoscope. Among them; Shasha Yoga is a prominent one.
