Characteristics of Sagittarius
Sagittarius is taken as the ninth among 12 zodiac signs, in Vedic astrology. It is ruled by Jupiter. It features three nakshatras. All four quarters of Moola, all four quarters of Poorvashada and the first quarter of Uttarashada nakshatra fall in this sign. This sign features nine navamshas ranging from Aries to Sagittarius. Aries to Cancer navamshas are ruled by Moola, Leo to Scorpio navamshas are ruled by Poorvashada and Sagittarius navamsha is ruled by Uttarashada nakshatra. Sagittarius represents fire element and it is taken as a masculine sign.
Looking at characteristics of Sagittarius; it is a warm, passionate, dynamic, brave, courageous, confident, generous, kind, benevolent, optimistic, fortunate, creative, intuitive and adventurous sign. Natives under its strong influence may have significant/strong faith that some divine entity will guide them through difficult times and in many cases; their faith may bear fruits. They may be significantly/highly optimistic as well as intuitive and they may not be afraid of taking risks or beginning new ventures. They may put everything on stake for something or someone they believe in; and they may not regret even if they lose everything for one such cause. Money, fame and success generally come easy to them and they may often find themselves in comfortable positions. They may be loved, respected and valued by people around them; due to their kind and helping nature. At times, they may be overoptimistic and they may make irrational/unrealistic decisions which may cause losses and/or problems.
Though Sagittarius represents a number of characteristics; different planets may embrace different characteristics when placed in this sign. Jupiter and Sun may utilize most of its characteristics and hence they may be very strong or strong in this sign; depending on their nakshatra and navamsha placements within this sign. Mars and Ketu may utilize many of its characteristics and they may be strong or they may have significant strength in this sign; depending on their nakshatra and navamsha placements within this sign. Moon, Venus and Mercury may perform very well, well or poorly; depending on their nakshatra and navamsha placements within this sign. Saturn and Rahu may perform well or poorly; depending on their nakshatra and navamsha placements within this sign.

Taking an example, Sun may be very strong when placed in Aries navamsha of Moola nakshatra within the sign of Sagittarius whereas it may be strong but not very strong when placed in Libra navamsha of Poorvashada nakshatra within the same sign. Taking another example, Venus may perform poorly when placed in Virgo navamsha of Poorvashada, it may perform well when placed in Taurus navamsha of Moola and it may perform very well when placed in Libra navamsha of Poorvashada nakshatra; within the sign of Sagittarius.
