Bhakoot Dosh is the second most feared Dosh which is formed during the process of match making through Gun Milan. Bhakoot is a koot or aspect which carries 7 points or Gunas according to the system of Gun Milan which is used by many astrologers practicing in Vedic astrology for the purpose of match making between two individuals. Bhakoot lies at 2nd position from the top and at 7th position from the bottom, and accordingly it carries 7 Gunas or points. Different number of Gunas or points are assigned for Bhakoot match; based on how the Bhakoots of boy and girl match with each other, according to the rules of Gun Milan.
First of all, let’s try and understand as to what this Bhakoot is according to Vedic astrology and what the role of Bhakoot is in the process of match making according to the system of Gun Milan. We know that all nine planets called navagraha in Vedic astrology are always on their journey from one sign to the other and from one nakshatra to the other. Accordingly, Moon also travels from Ashwini nakshatra to Revati nakshatra and from Aries to Pisces in a cyclic movement and at any given point of time and place; Moon is present in a particular nakshatra and in a particular sign. For example, let’s assume that Moon is present in Pushya nakshatra and Cancer sign at this time and place. Accordingly, all the people born during this time and place will have Moon placed in Pushya nakshatra and in Cancer sign in their birth horoscopes. Hence the birth nakshatra of these natives is Pushya and birth sign or Rashi of these natives is Cancer.
Moving ahead, let’s consider another horoscope in which Moon is placed in Moola nakshatra and in Sagittarius sign. Accordingly, Moola becomes the birth nakshatra of this native and Sagittarius becomes the Moon sign or Rashi of this native. Now the Moon signs or Rashis of both these natives are called their Bhakoots and the matching of these Bhakoots is done through the system of Gun Milan. According to the system of Gun Milan, if Moon signs or Bhakoots of girl and boy make a combination of 5-9, 6-8 or 2-12 with each other, Bhakoot Dosh is formed. The numbers mentioned in these combinations are calculated on the basis of the distance of one Moon sign or Bhakoot from the other Moon sign or Bhakoot.
Simplifying the above example, we know that the Moon sign or Bhakoot of one native say boy is Cancer and the Moon sign or Bhakoot of the other native, say girl is Sagittarius. Now, when we start counting Moon signs from the Moon sign or Bhakoot of the boy, which is Cancer, it is found that Sagittarius which is the Moon sign or Bhakoot of the girl is placed at a distance of 6 signs from Cancer. Similarly, when we count Moon signs from the Moon sign or Bhakoot of the girl, it is found that Cancer is situated at a distance of 8 signs from Sagittarius.
Hence the combination of 6-8 Bhakoot is obtained in this case, which leads to the formation of Bhakoot Dosh in match making. It should be noted that while making this calculation, the sign from which we start counting onwards is also taken into consideration. It means that Cancer will be counted as 1st, Leo as 2nd, Virgo as 3rd, Libra as 4th, Scorpio as 5th and Sagittarius will be counted as the 6th sign from Cancer. The same holds for making this calculation from Sagittarius to Cancer, which gives us the number 8.
Similarly, if the Moon sign of the girl is Gemini and the Moon sign or Bhakoot of the boy is Taurus, a combination of 2-12 is formed between the Moon signs, and Bhakoot Dosh is again formed in match making. Likewise, Bhakoot Dosh of 5-9 is formed in match making if Moon sign or Bhakoot of boy is Taurus and Moon sign or Bhakoot of girl is Virgo, which make a relation of 5-9 which again forms Bhakoot Dosh. As we now know what Bhakoot Dosh is, let’s look at some of the malefic results associated with each type of Bhakoot Dosh.
It is said that Bhakoot Dosh of 2-12 formed in match making can make the couple suffer from extreme poverty and the financial equation of such couple is not likely to improve throughout their lives. Bhakoot Dosh of 5-9 which is also called navam pancham Bhakoot Dosh in Vedic astrology is said to delay or deny the production or generation of children. It is believed by many astrologers that the presence of 5-9 Bhakoot Dosh is very bad for child birth. Bhakoot Dosh of 6-8 which is also called shadashtak Bhakoot Dosh in Vedic astrology is said to cause divorce or the death of one or both the partners, if such boy and girl choose to marry despite the formation of this Dosh during match making. The system of Gun Milan also lays some rules of exception, which means that Bhakoot Dosh is said to be cancelled or nullified in match making, if any one of the following conditions is met:
If the Lord of Moon Signs or Rashis of boy and girl is the same in both the horoscopes, Bhakoot Dosh is said to be nullified. For example 6-8 Bhakoot Dosh is said to be nullified in case of Aries-Scorpio and Taurus-Libra combination; and 12-2 Bhakoot Dosh is said to be nullified in case of Capricorn-Aquarius combination.
If the Lords of Moon Signs of boy and girl are friendly towards each other, Bhakoot Dosh is said to be nullified. For example, a combination of Pisces-Aries and Aries-Sagittarius is said to cancel this defect as both Jupiter and Mars are friendly towards each other. However it should be noted that for this condition to meet, both the planets should be friendly towards each other. For example, 2-12 Bhakoot Dosh will not be cancelled according to this rule, in case one of the natives has Moon sign as Leo and the other one has Moon sign as Virgo. This is due to the fact that Mercury is friendly towards Sun but Sun is neutral towards Mercury. Hence this defect will not be cancelled as only one of the two Moon sign lords is friendly towards the other whereas the second one is neutral towards the first one.
Moving ahead, the system of Gun Milan assigns 7 Gunas or points to Bhakoot and the formation of Bhakoot Dosh in match making means that the couple has scored 0 out of 7 Gunas for Bhakoot match. It should be noted that the system of Gun Milan is based on matching 8 aspects or koots from both the horoscopes, which are assigned 1 to 8 points or Gunas respectively. Since Bhakoot lies at second position from the top of this pyramid of Gunas, the formation of Bhakoot Dosh during the process of Gun Milan deducts 7 points straight away; resulting in a big negative impact on the overall matching score as well as in many other types of problems associated with this Dosh, depending on its kind.
Let’s now try to analyze Bhakoot Dosh with the help of scientific facts and statistics; and let’s see if Bhakoot Dosh is actually capable of doing the kind of damage which is associated with it. As we know there are only twelve zodiac signs according to Vedic astrology; accordingly there are only 12 Moon signs or Bhakoots for both boy and girl. It means that only 12 combinations can be formed between the Moon signs of boy and girl when their horoscopes are analyzed for match making through Gun Milan. For example, if the Moon sign or Bhakoot of Boy is Aries, only 12 combinations of Bhakoot can be formed with any girl, depending on the Bhakoot or Moon sign of the girl under consideration for match making.
These combinations can be named as 1-1, 2-12, 3-11, 4-10, 5-9, 6-8, 7-7, 8-6, 9-5, 10-4, 11-3 and 12-2. We can clearly see from this data that 6 out of these 12 possible combinations of Bhakoots or Moon signs form Bhakoot Dosh in match making according to the system of Gun Milan. Hence every second couple on average is likely to be afflicted by Bhakoot Dosh which means that about 50% cases of match making are having Bhakoot Dosh. Making some adjustments for the exceptions given for Bhakoot Dosh, the total percentage still comes closer to 40%, which means that every second or third girl on average is prohibited for a boy and every second or third boy is prohibited for a girl, merely on the basis of Bhakoot Dosh.
It should be noted that Bhakoot Dosh is only one of the defects formed during match making and there are many other defects like Manglik Dosh, Kaal Sarp Dosh, Pitra Dosh, Nadi Dosh, Graha Maitri Dosh, Gan Dosh, Yoni Dosh and other defects, each of which is capable of causing serious problems in 40 to 50% of the marriages; according to the prevalent definitions of these defects. Taking everything into consideration, it can be easily said that almost all the marriages in the world should end up in divorces or other serious problems. This is not what we see in reality and hence the formation of Bhakoot Dosh in match making alone can’t cause serious problems in the marriages of the couples having this Dosh.
In my experience of horoscope matching which now goes over thousands of cases of match making, I have witnessed hundreds of successful marriages despite the presence of Bhakoot Dosh in match making. This happened due to fact that the overall horoscopes of these couples were giving very good indications about the marriages of these couples as the positive factors present in these horoscopes reduced the malefic effects of Bhakoot Dosh to great extent. Hence Bhakoot Dosh could not cause any significant damage in these marriages.
Hence it should be kept in mind that the formation of Bhakoot Dosh during horoscope matching can cause significant problems in the marriage of a couple under consideration, only if such Bhakoot Dosh is supported by some other malefic defects present in one or both the horoscopes. Bhakoot Dosh is not capable of causing serious damages in the marriage of a couple on its own, in most cases. It should also be noted that the presence of good yogas in one or both the horoscopes can reduce the bad effects of Bhakoot Dosh to great extents and accordingly, this defect may not cause any significant damage in such a marriage.
Therefore the couples having Bhakoot Dosh during match making should not lose heart and they should get their horoscopes matched properly in order to know whether such Bhakoot Dosh is capable of causing any damage or not. It should also be noted that the malefic effects of Bhakoot Dosh can be rectified with astrological remedies like Poojas, Yantras and donations in most cases, which gives us one more reason for not being afraid of Bhakoot Dosh.
