Anuradha is taken as the seventeenth nakshatra among the 27 nakshatras which are considered important in Vedic Jyotish for making calculations from horoscopes based on Vedic Jyotish. The word Anuradha literally translates into Another Radha and some Vedic astrologers relate the meaning of this word to success and good luck. The main symbol of this nakshatra is a Staff which is a Dand carried by powerful sages according to Vedic mythology. This Dand carried by the sages used to be very powerful and was used by them for their own protection and to punish the ones who attacked them or who deserved punishment. In a way it was used by them to keep the things around them in balance.
