Poorvaphalguni is taken as the eleventh nakshatra among the 27 nakshatras which are considered important in Indian Jyotish for making calculations from horoscopes based on Vedic Astrology. The literal meaning of the word Poorvaphalguni according to Vedic Astrology is The Former Reddish One or The Former one with Reddish or Red Colour. As the red colour is associated with desires of many kinds and Indian Jyotish considers red as an auspicious colour and that is why the bride is made to wear red dress during the marriage ceremony according to some Vedic beliefs, so the name of this nakshatra suggests its association with many qualities associated with red colour. Most of the Vedic astrologers take the symbol of this nakshatra as the front two legs of a Divan which is a bed or Couch used for seating in a relaxed way usually during the daytime and which is also used to get some sleep during day time. So the symbol of this nakshatra indicates that Poorvaphalguni is a nakshatra associated with relaxation of one kind or the other. It should be noted here that according to the prevalent beliefs of Vedic Astrology, only the front legs of the couch are taken as a symbol of this nakshatra which according to some Vedic astrologers mean that this nakshatra indicates the first stage of relaxation which is usually a deeper stage of relaxation compared to the second stage of relaxation which is a lighter form of relaxation and which is achieved when one has gone through the first stage of relaxation.
For example, the short sleep taken during the daytime commonly known as siesta can be considered as the first stage of relaxation and the period during which a person just lies on the couch after waking up can be considered as the later stage of relaxation.
