Vedic astrology is full of many surprising good and bad yogas which are formed in a horoscope and Neechbhang Rajyog is one of these surprising yogas mentioned in Vedic astrology. Many Vedic astrologers believe that the formation of Neechbhang Rajyog in a horoscope can bless the native with the results equal to or similar to the results of a proper Raj yog. Some of these astrologers believe that Neechbhang Rajyog can bless the native with good results which are stronger than even a proper Raj yog and such Neechbhang Rajyog formed in a horoscope can bless the native with the status of a king or emperor which in today’s world will translate into the head of state of a country or head of state of a very powerful and influential country.

Due to conflicting opinions of different astrologers about this yog, much debate and confusion has covered this yog called Neechbhang Rajyog, due to which most people interested in Vedic astrology as well as many astrologers are confused about the formation of this yog in a horoscope and the actual possible results given by such Neechbhang Rajyog in a horoscope. In this chapter, we will discuss the various aspects of this yog called Neechbhang Rajyog and we will also try to find the relevance of this yog on practical basis.

Neechbhang Rajyog : According to the prevalent definition of Neechbhang Rajyog, the Neech status or debilitation status of a planet in debilitation is cancelled and Neechbhang Rajyog is formed if any one of the following conditions are met in a horoscope :

If a debilitated planet is debilitated in Lagna or birth horoscope but it is exalted in navamsha chart, Neechbhang Rajyog is said to be formed in the horoscope. For example, debilitated Mercury placed in 2nd pada of Uttarabhadrapada nakshatra which means that Mercury is placed in Pisces in birth chart and it is placed in Virgo in Navamsha chart.

If a debilitated planet is placed with an exalted planet in a horoscope, Neechbhang Rajyog is said to be formed in the horoscope, for example, Venus and Mercury in Pisces where Mercury is debilitated and Venus is exalted.

If the lord of sign of debilitation of a debilitated planet is placed with the debilitated planet or it is aspecting the debilitated planet in a horoscope, Neechbhang Rajyog is said to be formed in the horoscope. For example, if Jupiter being the lord of Pisces sign is placed in Pisces along with debilitated Mercury or Jupiter is aspecting Mercury from Virgo.

If two debilitated planets are placed in 7th house with respect to each other and they are aspecting each other, Neechbhang Rajyog is said to be formed in the horoscope, for example, Mercury in 4th house in Pisces and Venus in 10th house in Virgo.

If the lord of sign of debilitation of a debilitated planet is either exalted or it is placed in a Kendra house in a horoscope, Neechbhang Rajyog is said to be formed in the horoscope, for example, debilitated Mercury in Pisces and Jupiter in Cancer or in any one of Kendra houses of the horoscope.

If the lord of sign of exaltation of a debilitated planet is exalted or placed in a Kendra house of the horoscope, Neechbhang Rajyog is said to be formed in the horoscope. For example, debilitated Jupiter in Capricorn and Moon being the lord of Cancer which is the sign of exaltation of Jupiter is placed in Taurus or in any one of Kendra houses of a horoscope.

If a debilitated planet becomes Vargottama in a horoscope which means it occupies the same sign in birth horoscope as well as navamasha chart, Neechbhang Rajyog is said to be formed in the horoscope. For example, debilitated Mercury placed in 4th pada of Revati nakshatra will make Mercury Vargottama in the horoscope as it is placed in Pisces in the birth chart as well as in navamsha chart.

As already stated, if any one of the above mentioned conditions is met in a horoscope, debilitation of a planet is cancelled in the horoscope and such debilitated planet forms Neechbhang Rajyog in the horoscope which can bless the native with the results similar to or even stronger than the results given by a Raj Yog. It is also believed by many Vedic astrologers that if 2 or more than 2 debilitated planets form Neechbhang Rajyog in a horoscope at the same time, they can make the native a very powerful king or emperor which in today’s world will be equivalent to the prime minister or president of a very powerful country.

Let’s now analyze the conditions mentioned in the definition of Neechbhang Rajyog and let’s try to find out as in how many cases of debilitation, a Neechbhang Rajyog is formed in a horoscope. Let’s assume that a native is born with Virgo Ascendant and Jupiter is debilitated by its placement in Capricorn in a horoscope and it is placed in 5th house of the horoscope. Let’s now try to find out the possibilities of cancellation of this debilitation and the possibilities of formation of Neechbhang Rajyog in the horoscope.

Starting with Saturn which is the Lord of sign of debilitation of Jupiter, if Saturn is placed in any one of Kendra houses of this horoscope which means the houses number 1, 4, 7 and 10 of the horoscope, or if Saturn in placed in 2nd house of the horoscope where the sign of Libra is placed which is the sign of exaltation of Saturn, or if Saturn is placed in 5th house of the horoscope along with Jupiter and in its own sign of Capricorn, or if Saturn is placed in 1st house, 3rd house, 8th house, 9th house or 11th house of the horoscope from where Saturn can cast an aspect on Jupiter according to the aspects assigned to Saturn by Vedic astrology, the debilitation of Jupiter will be cancelled in the horoscope merely on the basis of placement of Saturn in certain specific houses of the horoscope as Saturn is the lord of sign of debilitation of Jupiter. If we count these incidences, it can be found that in the above mentioned example, the placement of Saturn in 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th, 7th, 8th, 9th or 11th house of the horoscope will cancel the debilitation of Jupiter and it will lead to the formation of Neechbhang Rajyog in the horoscope.

It means that the placement of Saturn in 9 out of 12 houses of the horoscope will cancel the debilitation of Jupiter and it will form Neechbhang Rajyog in the horoscope. Taking other conditions for the formation of Neechbhang Rajyog into consideration, the placement of Mars in 5th or 11th house of the horoscope ( Mars is exalted in Capricorn in 5th house in this case and Mars is debilitated in Cancer in 11th house in this case), the placement of Moon which is the lord of sign of exaltation of Jupiter, in house number 1, 4, 7, 10 or 11 of the horoscope and some other combinations will also cancel the debilitation of Jupiter in the horoscope and it will form Neechbhang Rajyog in the horoscope.

Taking all these possibilities into consideration, it can be easily found out that such debilitation of Jupiter will be cancelled in almost every horoscope having such debilitated Jupiter and almost all of these horoscopes will have Neechbhang Rajyog in them. Further considering that Sun is placed in 2nd house of this horoscope in the sign of Libra which means that the Sun is also debilitated in this horoscope, then the placement of Venus which is the lord of sign of debilitation of Sun, in any one of the houses, 1, 2, 4, 6, 7, 8 or 10 will also form another Neechbhang Rajyog in the horoscope and the combined effect of these two Neechbhang Rajyogas can make the native become an emperor.

Similarly these statistics can be calculated for all other planets and it can be said that almost all the natives having a debilitated planet will have a Neechbhang Rajyog in their horoscopes and almost all the natives having 2 or more debilitated planets in their horoscope are having 2 or more Neechbhang Raja Yogas in their horoscopes which means that each and every person having one or more debilitated planets in his horoscope should either become a King or an emperor or he should at least become a high class government official or minister.

The study of debilitated planets tells that one or more than one debilitated planet is found in almost every 2nd horoscope which means that almost every 2nd horoscope will feature a Neechbhang Rajyog and accordingly every 2nd person in this world will become a King or an Emperor or at least a high class government official or minister with the government.

This is a very foolish supposition as this is worlds away from the truth and hence the formation of Neechbhang Rajyog in a horoscope according to the conditions mentioned in its prevalent definition, can be easily ruled out. It leaves us with the question whether there is any such concept called Neechbhang Rajyog in Vedic astrology or is it just a myth which has been created by some astrologers, later on. I have analyzed thousands of horoscopes having this alleged Neechbhang Rajyog in them and only a very few of these horoscopes actually gave good or very good results to the natives and these were the horoscopes which had much more refined conditions in them than the ones mentioned in the prevalent definition of this yog.

Looking at these conditions, first of all, the presence of lord of sign of debilitation of a planet in Kendra houses of a horoscope or in its sign of exaltation does not really do much to form Neechbhang RajYog in the horoscope whereas the placement of lord of sign of debilitation with the debilitated planet can actually make difference which will again be dependent on the nature of debilitated planet as well as the lord of sign of debilitation of such debilitated planet.

For example, if Mars and Moon are both benefic in a horoscope and both are placed in Cancer in the horoscope which means that Mars is debilitated in the horoscope and the Moon being the lord of sign of debilitation of Mars is in its own house, then such a benefic combination of Mars and Moon can certainly provide good or very good strength to debilitated Mars by forming benefic Chandra Mangal Yog in the horoscope and the benefic influence of such Chandra Mangal yog can bless the native with good results in many spheres of his life including a possible position of power and authority in government.

But in case, the Moon placed with Mars is malefic or very malefic, then it will not provide extra strength to Mars and on the contrary such malefic Moon can seriously afflict Mars which can cause even more weakness and vulnerability to Mars. Taking another consideration, if both Mars and Moon placed in cancer are malefic, then such a malefic combination will only lead to disasters in many spheres of native’s life and such a malefic Chandra Mangal yog is not likely to bring any good results at all.

Hence the nature of both the planets involved in such combination is very important and the influence of any other benefic or malefic planets on such combination is also very important. In case of the aspect of Moon to Mars from some other houses of the horoscope, in the above mentioned example, the same possibilities will exists but the results whether good or bad will be less or very less in quantum which will depend on the kind of aspect that Moon casts on Mars.

The lord of sign of exaltation of a debilitated planet has got almost nothing to do with cancellation of debilitation of a debilitated planet and hence this condition can be safely ignored. If two debilitated planets are placed in houses opposite to each other, then the resultant will again be dependent on the nature of both these planets and such results can be good, very good, bad or very bad depending on the kind of combination that such debilitated planets make with each other based on their benefic or malefic natures. If a debilitated planet is placed with an exalted planet then the strength gained by such debilitated planet will strictly depend on the nature of the exalted planet.

For example, if a debilitated planet is placed in conjunction with a benefic exalted planet in a horoscope, it will certainly gain strength and the benefic results will depend on the nature of debilitated planet, the placement of such combination in the horoscope, the significances of both these planets and some other important aspects. On the other hand, if a debilitated planet is placed in conjunction with a malefic exalted planet in a horoscope, such combination will cause even more damage to the already weak debilitated planet and it can cause disastrous results in some cases.

The placement of a debilitated planet in its sign of exaltation in navamsha chart certainly helps provide some strength to such debilitated planet whereas the placement of a debilitated planet in its sign of debilitation in navamsha chart does not do much to provide extra strength to such debilitated planet and hence such Vargottama position of a debilitated planet is not useful in most cases.

It can be concluded from the above discussion that the debilitation status of a debilitated planet is not cancelled in every horoscope and it is cancelled only in a few horoscopes when any one of the above mentioned couple of most relevant and practical conditions is met in a horoscope. Once the debilitation of a planet is cancelled, the next question is whether or not such cancellation of debilitation can form a Neechbhang Rajyog in a horoscope and the answer is no in most such cases. Even if the debilitation is successfully cancelled in a horoscope, it does not mean the formation of a Neechbhang Rajyog in the horoscope in many such cases, though it does mean that the native may get some good or very good results due to such cancellation of debilitation.

This is because the 2 most effective conditions for cancellation of debilitation of a planet in a horoscope include the conjunction of benefic lord of sign of debilitation of debilitated planet or the placement of a benefic exalted planet, with the debilitated planet. Both these conditions mean that a very strong and benefic planet will form a combination with the debilitated planet and if the debilitated planet is itself a benefic planet, then a combination of 2 benefic planets will be formed in the horoscope.

Such combination will certainly form some kind of good or very good yog in the horoscope which may be a Raj Yog, a Dhan Yog or some other kind of beneficial yog depending on the placement of such yog in the horoscope as well as depending on many other important aspects of the horoscope and finally depending on the overall strength and nature of the horoscope.

Hence the cancellation of debilitation of a planet should be checked carefully and logically in a horoscope and only then a practical and logical conclusion should be drawn because blindly following the conditions mentioned in the prevalent definition of Neechbhang Rajyog will not help at all and most horoscopes having one or more than one debilitated planets will have Neechbhang Rajyog in them which is highly impractical and far away from the truth.

Therefore the presence of a benefic exalted planet or the presence of benefic lord of sign of debilitation of a debilitated planet with the debilitated planet are the only 2 conditions which need to be considered for effective cancellation of debilitation of a debilitated planet. Even when it is sure that the debilitation of a planet has been cancelled in a horoscope, the formation of Neechbhang Rajyog should not be confirmed because such a combination of debilitated planet and exalted or own sign planet can form a variety of combinations in the horoscope some of which can be Dhan Yogas, Raj yogas or some other good or very good yogas and some of which can be bad yogas in case the debilitated planet itself is malefic in the horoscope and it is afflicting the benefic exalted or own sign planet placed with it.

To conclude, only 2 conditions out of all the conditions mentioned in the prevalent definition of Neechbhang Rajyog are worth considering for the effective cancellation of Neech status or debilitation of a planet in a horoscope and once the cancellation of debilitation is confirmed, it should further be checked properly whether such cancellation is forming a Neechbhang Rajyog, some kind of Dhan yog, some other kind of benefic yog or some kind of malefic yog in the horoscope.

It means that the cancellation of debilitation of a planet can form a Raj Yog in the horoscope in some cases which is called Neechbhang Rajyog, but such cancellation of debilitation can also form a variety of other yogas in the horoscope, some of which can be good or very good and some of which can be bad or malefic. It should be noted that such a combination is not likely to form a very bad yog in the horoscope because even if the debilitated planet is negative in nature, it is weak in strength and on the other hand the exalted or own sign planet placed with it is benefic and very strong which means that such malefic and weak debilitated planet can’t cause much harm to such benefic and very strong exalted or Swagrahi planet.
