When Sun is placed in Punarvasu and Mercury is in Ardra, the problems may be significant, serious or very serious; especially those related to health, lifespan and profession. When both Sun and Mercury are placed in Punarvasu, the problems may be significant or serious; for all spheres covered by such Pitra Dosh.
Looking at navamshas, the sign of Gemini features 9 navamshas. The first two navamshas Libra and Scorpio are ruled by Mrigashira nakshatra. The next four navamshas from Sagittarius to Pisces are ruled by Ardra nakshatra. The last three navamshas from Aries to Gemini are ruled by Punarvasu nakshatra. Within Gemini; Sun and Mercury can form 81 types of Pitra Dosh by virtue of their placements in various navamshas. Let’s discuss some of these combinations.

Looking at the worst combinations; when Sun is placed in Libra or Aquarius navamsha and Mercury is placed in Capricorn or Gemini navamsha; the problems may be very serious or destructive. Though Mercury is stronger in Gemini than in Capricorn; Gemini navamsha is ruled by Punarvasu which is a benevolent nakshatra and it may not promote destructive acts in general.
Capricorn navamsha is ruled by Ardra which is a harsh nakshatra and which has no problem when it comes to engage in destruction. Ardra doesn’t love destruction like Moola or Poorvabhadrapada; but it is also not opposed to destruction. This nakshatra is ruled by the Rudra form of Lord Shiva and that form signifies anger, aggression and destruction. Mercury rules the eighth house which also deals in destruction; and Mercury is strong in Capricorn. Hence Mercury may prove destructive when placed in Capricorn navamsha of Ardra nakshatra.
Though such Pitra Dosh may create serious or very serious problems related to various spheres; much depends on the overall horoscope. Whichever of these spheres are protected by benefic planets; they may suffer less. Whichever spheres are neither protected nor troubled; they may suffer significantly. The spheres which are troubled by other malefic planets also, may suffer the most.
Making some changes to this horoscope, if benefic Mars is placed in the second house in Sagittarius, benefic exalted Moon is placed in the seventh house in Taurus with Venus, Rahu is placed in the fourth house with Saturn; and Ketu is placed in the tenth house in Leo; the native may become a revenue intelligence officer, a secret service officer or some other likewise professional.
Looking at another variation; suppose a combination of Sun, Jupiter and Mercury is placed in the eighth house of a horoscope in Gemini. Mars is placed in the eleventh house in Virgo, exalted Saturn is placed in the twelfth house in Libra, Rahu is placed in the first house in Scorpio, Ketu is placed in the seventh house in Taurus with Venus; and Moon is placed in the fifth house in Pisces. In case of a female native; such Pitra Dosh may also create problems related to marriage and husband. The type and quantum of such problems depend on the strength of such Pitra Dosh, on the overall horoscope as well as on the running times. When Mercury is placed in Rohini and Jupiter is placed in Rohini or Mrigashira, the problems may be serious or very serious; especially those related to father, marriage, profession and health.
When Mercury is placed in Mrigashira and Jupiter is placed in Krittika or Rohini, the problems may be significant, serious or very serious; related to all spheres affected by such Pitra Dosh. If Mercury and Jupiter are placed in Mrigashira nakshatra, the problems may be serious or very serious; related to all spheres affected by such Pitra Dosh.
Looking at navamshas, the sign of Taurus features 9 navamshas of these nakshatras; ranging from Capricorn to Virgo navamsha. Capricorn to Pisces navamshas are ruled by Krittika, Aries to Cancer navamshas are ruled by Rohini and Leo as well as Virgo navamsha is ruled by Mrigashira nakshatra. Among these combinations; the formation of Pitra Dosh with both Mercury and Jupiter in Pisces navamsha of Krittika nakshatra may prove the most troublesome. Jupiter is strong in Pisces, Mercury is debilitated in Pisces and Krittika is a difficult to handle nakshatra. Hence the native may witness maximum impact of such Pitra Dosh in this case and the damage may be witnessed in all spheres affected by such Pitra Dosh.
