Article 154

The sixth house of horoscope represents diseases, disputes, delays, disagreements, arguments, litigations, court cases, financial debts, enemies and crime among other things. It can be seen from these characteristics that the sixth house is a difficult to handle house. Hence it is generally considered as a malefic house. However, there are two sides of every coin. The same holds true in case of the sixth house also.

The sixth house represents diseases but this characteristic can go both ways. It means the influence of sixth house or its lord can make you suffer from various types of health issues and diseases, if your overall horoscope is not capable of handling the energy of this house. On the other hand, the sixth house or its lord can make you a doctor who treats and cures diseases of other people; if your horoscope can properly channelize the energy of this house. In the same way, this house can make you an astrologer, consultant or some other likewise professional who deals with problems. The concept of malefic houses and their lords giving beneficial results has been explained in the chapter ‘Vipreet Rajyoga’ of the book ‘Important Yogas in Vedic Astrology’.

Crime is represented by the sixth house though it may be represented by other houses and planets also. In this case also, there are three options. The influence of this house can make you a criminal or it can make you a sufferer who is troubled by a criminal or criminals. As the third option, it can make you engage in professions which fight against crime and disorder. Hence natives under the influence of the sixth house may become police officers, army officer and other types of defence officers who fight against crime, who try to maintain law and order; and who try to keep people safe and secure. Whether the influence of the sixth house turns you into a criminal, a sufferer or a professional fighting such crimes; depends on your overall horoscope. If your overall horoscope is strong enough to handle the energy of this house, you may become an officer.

Likewise, the sixth house deals with disputes, disagreements and court cases. Here again, the influence of this house can make you a party in one such dispute or court case, it can make you a lawyer who represents a dispute or court case or it can make you a judge who handles such dispute or court case. Once again, what you may become due to the influence of the sixth house depends on your overall horoscope.

The sixth house deals with financial debts, disagreements and other types of problems. Hence it has the potential to make you suffer from financial debts, problems due to disagreements or disputes and other types of problems. At the same time, it can make you a banker, a professional who deals in providing financial loans or a consultant who helps resolve disputes and disagreements. Here again, what you may become depends on your overall horoscope.

Though the sixth house can bless us with good as well as bad results; it is generally called a malefic house. This is due to the reason that the energy of this house is difficult to handle and most people may not be able to channelize it properly. As a result, such energy may do what it wishes and it may end up creating various types of problems. This is why it is called a malefic house and its lord is considered malefic in horoscope. However, this house as well as its lord is fully capable of behaving positively; when supported by the overall horoscope. This concept has been explained in the chapter ‘Vipreet Rajyoga’ of the book ‘Important Yogas in Vedic Astrology’.

Since the sixth house is a difficult to handle house, the formation of a defect like Pitra Dosh in this house may create problems which are higher in quantum than the ones created by Pitra Dosh formed in many other houses of horoscope. For example, when Pitra Dosh is formed in the first house of a horoscope, only the malefic planets involved in its formation may create problems for the native. It means the benefic planet and the first house may not create any problems. However, when Pitra Dosh is formed in the sixth house; this house may also create problems for the native, apart from those created by malefic planets. For this reason, Pitra Dosh formed in the sixth, eighth or twelfth house may become much more troublesome than the same formed in other houses of horoscope.

Suppose benefic Sun and malefic Venus form Pitra Dosh in the sixth house of a horoscope in Scorpio. Gemini rises as ascendant in this case. Sun and Venus have comparable strength in Scorpio through Sun is stronger in general. Sun rules the third house and Venus rules the fifth as well as the twelfth house. Through its general significances as well as through the third house; Sun represents profession, siblings, courage, communication, neighbours, efforts, colleagues, teammates, immunity, confidence, intelligence, creativity, father and the ability to produce children in case of male natives; among many other things.

Through its general significances as well as through the fifth and twelfth house; Venus represents children, love life, creativity, romance, fame, politics, losses, delays, confusions, addictions, vices, women, wife, beauty, money, luxuries and the ability to produce children in case of female natives; among many other things.

Pitra Dosh formed by Sun and malefic Venus in the sixth house in Scorpio can cause damage to the general as well as specific significances of Sun and Venus. Since Sun receives such damage through Venus as well as through the sixth house whereas Venus receives such damage through the sixth house only; significances of Sun may receive much more damage than those of Venus.

As a result, such Pitra Dosh may trouble the native with problems related to father, children, marriage, wife, profession, health, siblings, love life, diseases, losses, delays, unfortunate events and many other types of problems. The type and quantum of these problems depend on the strength of such Pitra Dosh as well as on the overall horoscope of the native. The strength of such Pitra Dosh depends on the placements of Sun and Venus in various nakshatras as well as navamshas within the sign of Scorpio. Apart from this, the influences of benefic and malefic planets on Sun and Venus as well as the running times may also affect the strength of such Pitra Dosh. Let’s look into these factors.

Let’s start with nakshatras. The sign of Scorpio features three nakshatras; Vishakha, Anuradha and Jyeshtha. If Sun and Venus are placed in Vishakha, such Pitra Dosh may create significant or serious problems; especially the ones related to profession, love life, marriage, father, siblings and children. If Sun is placed in Vishakha and Venus is in Anuradha, the problems may be significant or serious; especially the ones related to profession, father, and children. If Sun is placed in Vishakha and Venus is in Jyeshtha, the problems may be serious; especially the ones related to health, father, marriage and children.

When Sun is placed in Anuradha and Venus is placed in Vishakha, the problems may be serious or very serious; and such problems may affect all the spheres covered by such Pitra Dosh. If Sun and Venus are placed in Anuradha nakshatra, the problems may be significant, serious or very serious; depending on navamsha placements of these two planets. Such problems may especially reflect through marriage, profession, health, father and children. If Sun is placed in Anuradha and Venus is placed in Jyeshtha, the problems may be serious or very serious; especially those related to father, love life, children and marriage.

If Sun is placed in Jyeshtha and Venus is in Vishakha, the problems may be significant or serious; especially the ones related to love life, marriage and children. If Sun is placed in Jyeshtha and Venus is placed in Anuradha, the problems may be significant or serious; especially the ones related to siblings, children, father and marriage. When both Sun and Venus are placed in Jyeshtha, the problems may be significant or serious; and such problems may cover all the spheres affected by such Pitra Dosh. However, the field of profession may only face significant problems; and not serious problems.

Looking at navamshas, the sign of Scorpio features 9 navamshas. The first navamsha Cancer is ruled by Vishakha nakshatra. The next four navamshas from Leo to Scorpio are ruled by Anuradha nakshatra. The last four navamshas from Sagittarius to Pisces are ruled by Jyeshtha nakshatra. Within Scorpio; Sun and Venus can form 81 types of Pitra Dosh by virtue of their placements in various navamshas. Let’s discuss some of these combinations.

When Sun is placed in Leo, Scorpio, Sagittarius or Capricorn navamsha and Venus is placed in Leo, Virgo, or Sagittarius navamsha; the problems may be significant. When Sun is placed in Leo, Scorpio, Sagittarius or Capricorn navamsha and Venus is placed in Cancer, Libra, Capricorn, Aquarius or Pisces navamshas; the problems may become serious.

If Sun is placed in Cancer, Virgo, Aquarius or Pisces navamsha and Venus is placed in Cancer, Libra, Capricorn, Aquarius or Pisces navamsha; the problems may become serious or very serious. Among these combinations, the placement of Sun in Cancer, Aquarius or Pisces navamsha and that of Venus in Cancer, Capricorn or Pisces navamsha may create very serious problems. On the other hand, the placement of Sun in Virgo navamsha and that of Venus in Libra or Aquarius navamsha may create serious but not very serious problems in general.

The worst combinations may happen when Sun is placed in Libra navamsha and Venus is placed in Cancer, Capricorn or Pisces navamsha. This is when such Pitra Dosh may hit the native with maximum strength and the damage may be felt across all the spheres affected by such Pitra Dosh. Sun is debilitated in Libra and Venus is strong or destructive or both; in Cancer, Capricorn and Pisces navamshas.

Though Venus is not that strong in Cancer, Vishakha nakshatra has strong tendencies to create negative events. Hence Venus may become destructive here. In case of Capricorn and Pisces navamsha, Venus is strong in these signs. Apart from that; Jyeshtha is a harsh nakshatra and it can create serious problems when possessed by malefic planets. Though Venus is strong in Libra navamsha, this navamsha is ruled by Anuradha nakshatra which is a tender nakshatra and it doesn’t engage in destructive actions in general. Hence the placement of Venus in Libra navamsha may not create very serious type of problems.

While assessing the outcomes of a combination of planets in various navamshas within a sign; the strength of such planets in various navamshas is not the only measure. The overall nature of such nakshatras as well as the overall comfort of specific planets in such nakshatras should also be considered since they are equally important. For instance, Venus is not that strong in Cancer but it is quite comfortable with the energies of Vishakha nakshatra. Hence it may use the energy of this nakshatra very well.

Apart from that; Vishakha is a fierce nakshatra and it can engage in troublesome acts without much hesitation. On the other hand, Anuradha is a tender nakshatra and it generally doesn’t support destructive acts for selfish motives. Hence malefic Venus may not create very serious problems in this nakshatra, though it is comfortable with this nakshatra and it is strong in Libra navamsha of this nakshatra.

Though such Pitra Dosh may create serious or very serious problems related to various spheres; much depends on the overall horoscope. Whichever of these spheres are protected by benefic planets; they may suffer less. Whichever spheres are neither protected nor troubled; they may suffer significantly. The spheres which are troubled by other malefic planets also, may suffer the most.

Taking an example, suppose a malefic combination of retrograde Mercury and Saturn is placed in the seventh house in Sagittarius in Moola nakshatra. In this case, the sphere of marriage may be completely destroyed, the native may die at a young age, he may not have children and he may not achieve success in profession; unless there are grace saving factors for some of these spheres. For example, if a benefic combination of exalted Jupiter and Moon is placed in the second house in Cancer; the sphere of profession and finances may witness significant relief.

The sphere of marriage may also witness some relief but it may not be sufficient for a male native. Hence he may still not be able to get married or he may get married once, get divorced and never get married again. In case this is the horoscope of a female native; the sphere of marriage as well as children may witness significant relief. Venus represents wife for a male native whereas Jupiter represents husband for a female native. Since Venus as well as the seventh house is troubled in this horoscope; the male native may not witness much relief in the sphere of marriage.

When it comes to a female native, Jupiter becomes the general as well as the specific signifier of marriage since it rules the seventh house in this case. Hence the troubled condition of Venus may not affect the marriage of this native, though such troubled Venus may create problems related to children. The seventh house is troubled but not very seriously since benefic Mercury is also placed in it. Jupiter being the lord of the seventh house as well as the general signifier of husband is exalted in the second house. Apart from this, it receive supports from strong Moon in Cancer and these two planets form Gaj Kesari Yoga.

The second house promotes the concept of family. Apart from Venus, Moon also carries importance in case of female natives; when it comes to produce children. As a collective result of all these factors; such female native may get married and she may also have at least one child; though she may have to face problems as well as medical complications in order to have such child. In case of male natives, the ability to produce children is generally represented by Sun and it is specifically represented by the fifth house. Both Sun and the lord of the fifth house are in serious trouble in this horoscope. Hence the male native with such horoscope may not be able to have children.

If Jupiter and Moon are not placed in the second house and debilitated Jupiter is placed in the eighth house in Capricorn; the problems may aggravate. Even the female native may not get married in this case since Jupiter is very weak due to debilitation and the seventh house is troubled. This horoscope also becomes troublesome for the lifespan of the native and the native may die at a young age. Depending on the finer factors, the placement of Moon and the running times; the native may die any time before his age of 40 years.

For example, if benefic Moon is placed in the first house of this horoscope in Gemini and the finer factors are favourable, the native may live up to the age of 40 years. On the other hand, if Moon is placed in the seventh house in Sagittarius in the first part of Moola nakshatra; along with Mercury and Saturn; the problem may aggravate. Moon forms Gandmool Dosh in the first part of Moola nakshatra. In this case, the native may die any time before his age of 30 years; depending on the finer factors. Looking at another variation; if debilitated Moon is placed in the sixth house of this horoscope in Scorpio along with Sun, Venus, Mars and Ketu; the native may die any time after his birth; depending on the finer factors and the running times.

Let’s consider an example where Pitra Dosh is formed in the sixth house due to affliction to the lord of the ninth house by one or more than one malefic planet. Suppose a malefic combination of Jupiter and exalted Mercury forms Pitra Dosh in the sixth house of a horoscope in Virgo. Mercury rules the third and sixth house in this case. Jupiter rules the ninth and twelfth house. Hence Jupiter is also partly malefic in this horoscope. Mercury is exalted in Virgo and Jupiter is not strong in this sign. It means such Pitra Dosh may be strong or very strong; depending on the relevant factors.

Through its general and specific significances; Jupiter represents father, husband, guru, religion, spiritual growth, luck factor, intelligence, creativity, intuition, hope, optimism, faith, generosity, respect, wisdom, losses, delays, addictions, confusions, vices, illusions and many other things. Through its general and specific significances; Mercury represents cleverness, intellect, analytical abilities, speech, communication, mathematical skills, siblings, profession, diseases, disputes, delays, disagreements, arguments, litigations, court cases, financial debts, enemies and crime among other things.

As a result, such Pitra Dosh may create problems related to father, religion, guru, spiritual growth, profession, finances, luck factor and health among other things. In case of a female native; such Pitra Dosh may also create problems related to marriage and husband. The type and quantum of such problems depend on the strength of such Pitra Dosh, on the overall horoscope as well as on the running times. The strength of such Pitra Dosh depends on the placements of Jupiter and Mercury in various nakshatras and navamshas within the sign of Virgo. Apart from this, influences of other benefic and malefic planets and the running times also affect the strength of this defect.

Let’s look into these factors and let’s start with nakshatras. The sign of Virgo features three nakshatras; Uttaraphalguni, Hasta and Chitra. Since Mercury is exalted in the sign of Virgo and Jupiter is not strong in this sign; Jupiter is no match for Mercury in this sign. Hence even the best placement of Jupiter within the sign of Virgo may create serious problems whereas troublesome placements of Jupiter within Virgo may create very serious problems.

If Jupiter and Mercury are placed in Uttaraphalguni, the problems may be significant, serious or very serious. Pitra Dosh formed due to placement of Jupiter and Mercury in this nakshatra has maximum variation in quantum as it may range from significant to very serious. This is because the last three parts of Uttaraphalguni nakshatra fall in the sign of Virgo and they rule Capricorn, Aquarius and Pisces navamshas. Capricorn is the sign of debilitation for Jupiter and Pisces is the sign of debilitation for Mercury. Since both these planets may get placed in their navamshas of debilitation within Uttaraphalguni and Jupiter is strong in Pisces; Pitra Dosh formed in this nakshatra may exhibit great variation in strength; depending on the navamsha placements of Jupiter and Mercury.

When Jupiter is placed in Uttaraphalguni and Mercury is placed in Hasta or Chitra; the problems may be serious or very serious. If Jupiter is placed in Hasta and Mercury is in Uttaraphalguni, the problems may be significant, serious or very serious. Hasta nakshatra is ruled by Moon and it features Cancer navamsha where Jupiter finds exaltation. Hence the strength of Jupiter may vary significantly within this nakshatra. Looking at Mercury, it is strong in Capricorn and Aquarius navamshas and weak in Pisces navamsha of Uttaraphalguni nakshatra. Hence this combination of Pitra Dosh may also exhibit great variation in strength; depending on navamsha placements of Jupiter and Mercury within their respective nakshatras.

When both Jupiter and Mercury are placed in Hasta nakshatra, the problems may be serious or very serious. If Jupiter is placed in Hasta and Mercury is in Chitra, the problems may be serious or very serious. When Jupiter is placed in Chitra and Mercury is placed in Uttaraphalguni or Hasta, the problems may be serious or very serious. When both Jupiter and Mercury are placed in Chitra nakshatra, the problems may be serious or very serious.

Looking at navamshas, the sign of Virgo features 9 navamshas of these nakshatras; ranging from Capricorn to Virgo navamsha. Capricorn to Pisces navamshas are ruled by Uttaraphalguni, Aries to Cancer navamshas are ruled by Hasta and Leo as well as Virgo navamsha is ruled by Chitra nakshatra. There are 81 probable combinations of such Pitra Dosh within the sign of Virgo. Let’s discuss some of them.

When Jupiter is placed in Pisces or Cancer navamsha and Mercury is placed in Pisces navamsha; the problems may be significant. When Jupiter is placed in Pisces or Cancer navamsha and Mercury is placed in Capricorn, Aquarius, Aries, Taurus, Gemini, Cancer, Leo or Virgo navamsha, the problems may be serious. If Jupiter is placed in Aries or Leo navamsha and Mercury is placed in Pisces navamsha; the problems may be serious.

If Jupiter is placed in Aquarius, Taurus, Gemini or Virgo navamsha and Mercury is placed in any navamsha except Pisces and Virgo navamsha, the problems may be very serious. When Jupiter is placed in Capricorn and Mercury is placed in any navamsha except Pisces and Virgo navamsha; the problems may be very serious or destructive.

Looking at the worst possible combinations for such Pitra Dosh, when Jupiter is placed in Capricorn navamsha and Mercury is placed in Capricorn, Aquarius, Gemini or Virgo navamsha; the problems may be destructive. Jupiter is weak in Virgo and it is debilitated in Capricorn. Mercury is exalted in Virgo and it is strong in these four navamshas. Among them also, Mercury reaches exaltation in Virgo navamsha. Hence when Mercury is placed in the sign of Virgo in Virgo navamsha of Chitra nakshatra; it is the strongest due to double exaltation. It means among its 108 probable placements in various navamshas within 12 signs and 27 nakshatras; Mercury is the strongest in Virgo navamsha in the sign of Virgo.

Apart from the aforementioned destructive combinations of this defect; Pitra Dosh formed due to placement of both Jupiter and Mercury in Virgo navamsha of Chitra nakshatra may also prove destructive. Jupiter is not strong in Virgo and Mercury here is as good as it can get. Hence Pitra Dosh formed in Virgo navamsha may also prove destructive for Jupiter.
