Article 063

Vedic astrology deals with the study of various concepts as well as entities like planets, signs, houses of horoscope and other concepts or entities. Among these, nakshatras are the ones which are often paid less attention than they should be.

In most cases, ignoring the placements of various planets in various nakshatras in a horoscope can lead to less accurate calculations. However in some cases, the same practice can result in major reduction in accuracy of calculations or predictions as the astrologer may have missed the placements of some very important planets in some specific nakshatras.

Even without study of nakshatras, calculations as well as probabilities or predictions can be made, in a horoscope. It means the study of nakshatras may not be an absolutely required variable if you wish to engage in study of astrology and you are fine with results which are good, though not very deep. For this reason, some faiths of astrology don’t include study of nakshatras while interpreting horoscopes. The astrologers dealing in such faiths are able to do good jobs, if they properly capture the rest of the concepts or entities.

However, if an astrologer wants to take that leading edge and if he wishes to dig into some of the deepest secrets of astrology; the study of nakshatras becomes absolutely necessary since this goal can’t be achieved otherwise. For example, even without considering nakshatras, it can be calculated from a horoscope that a benefic combination of Sun, exalted Mercury and debilitated Venus in the tenth house of a horoscope in Virgo, supported by a benefic combination of Jupiter and exalted Saturn in the eleventh house in Libra, can bless the native with success as an actor.

Such native may become an actor and he may achieve good or very good amount of success through this profession, depending on the rest of his horoscope. However, when it comes to tell what kind of actor such native may become, how good an actor he may be, what may his genres of specialization be, and other finer aspects; this may simply not be possible without taking into account, the nakshatras which carry the five planets mentioned in this example.

As you can see, even without including nakshatras, you can do the major job. This is why some faiths of astrology don’t study nakshatras and the astrologers dealing in such faiths can still make very good calculations. However, if you are not satisfied with 70 or 80% and you want to have 90% or more when it comes to understand a horoscope as an astrologer, you simply can’t accomplish this task without becoming friends with nakshatras. Before moving on with the main topic, let’s first understand the basic elements working in a horoscope.

The playground for all astrological entities is taken as circular; which includes movement within a range of 360 degrees. This playground is further divided into 12 zones which are called zodiac signs and each zone or zodiac sign owns 30 degrees. These zodiac signs keep appearing on the sky of a particular location, one after another, in cyclic motion. While one of these signs takes lead at a time; the others assume different positions or angles, according to a fixed pattern. This way, each sign gets to be the leader for about two hours; and a cycle is completed in about 24 hours.

The sign which appears as the leader on the sky of a particular place at the time of birth of a native; represents the first house of his horoscope. Hence this sign becomes his ascendant or Lagna. Horoscopes are also divided into twelve houses with each house enclosing 30 degrees, just like signs. If Aries is the rising sign at the time of birth of a native, it is assigned to the first house, which means Aries becomes the ascendant of such horoscope.

The next sign Taurus is assigned to the second house and this process goes on, completing at the twelfth house being assigned to the twelfth sign Pisces. If the second sign Taurus is leading the equation at the time of birth of a native; Taurus becomes his ascendant. The third sign Gemini represents the second house, the twelfth sign Pisces represents the eleventh house and the first sign Aries represents the twelfth house.

At any given point in time, each planet among navagraha transits through a zodiac sign. The movement of these planets also happens to be cyclic. It means each planet among navagraha except Rahu and Ketu, generally moves from Aries to Pisces and then repeats this movement, based on its speed of movement. Rahu and Ketu move in retrograde motion, from Pisces to Aries and they also follow the same cyclic pattern. Once the sign representing the ascendant as well as those representing the other houses of a horoscope are found, the planets are assigned to various houses; according to their transits in various signs at that time.

For example, if in a horoscope with Aries ascendant, Saturn is placed in the seventh house in Libra; it means at the time of birth of such native, Saturn was transiting through Libra. Since Libra falls in the seventh house of such horoscope, Saturn is placed in the seventh house. For another native born after an hour or two at the same place, Taurus may become the ascendant. In such case, Saturn in Libra is placed in the sixth house since the sign Libra falls in the sixth house of this horoscope. At present, Saturn is transiting through Capricorn. It means if a native is born during such transit with Aries as ascendant, Saturn will be placed in the tenth house of his horoscope since Capricorn falls in the tenth house.

For a native with Taurus ascendant, Saturn is placed in the ninth house whereas for a native with Pisces ascendant, Saturn is placed in the eleventh house; as these are the houses represented by Capricorn in such horoscopes, respectively. If more than one planet is transiting through a particular sign at a time, two or more planets are placed in the house represented by that sign in a horoscope. Looking at the current transitory equation, Saturn and Jupiter will be placed in the tenth house in a horoscope with Aries ascendant, if the native is born during these times.

This is the bigger setup through which a horoscope works. However, there is a finer setup which works within this bigger setup. This finer setup is used to calculate finer results and this setup is represented by nakshatras. According to this finer setup, the playground is further divided into 27 subzones called nakshatras, with each one of them claiming 13 degrees and 20 minutes; amounting to a total of 360 degrees. Each subzone further contains 4 finer zones called four quarters or padas of a nakshatra, with each one of them claiming 3 degrees and 20 minutes.

This way, the playground is divided into 108 finer divisions, with 4 divisions for each one of 27 nakshatras. These 108 finer divisions once again add up to 360 degrees. Since each sign contains 30 degrees, it means it contains 9 of such 108 finer divisions called navamshas. The word navamsha literally means the ninth part of something, which in this context means the ninth part of a sign. Nine multiplied by 3 degrees and 20 minutes gives 30 degrees and 108 multiplied by 3 degrees and 20 minutes gives 360 degrees; which solves the equation perfectly.

The first nakshatra Ashwini is aligned with the first sign Aries and all four quarters of Ashwini fall in Aries. The navamshas corresponding to these quarters are Aries, Taurus, Gemini and Cancer. All four quarters of the next nakshatra Bharani also fall in Aries whereas only the first quarter of the third nakshatra Krittika falls in Aries, since a sign can only accommodate nine quarters of various nakshatras. The navamshas corresponding to these five quarters are Leo, Virgo, Libra, Scorpio and Sagittarius respectively.

The next three quarters of Krittika fall in the second sign Taurus, all four quarters of the fourth nakshatra Rohini fall in Taurus, two quarters of the fifth nakshatra Mrigashira fall in Taurus and the remaining two fall in Gemini. The navamshas for Krittika nakshatra are Capricorn, Aquarius and Pisces. The cycle starts again, with Aries being the navamsha for the first quarter of Rohini. Moving on, all four quarters of Ardra fall in Gemini, three quarters of Punarvasu fall in Gemini, one quarter of Punarvasu falls in Cancer, all four quarters of Pushya fall in Cancer and all four quarters of the ninth nakshatra Ashlesha fall in Cancer.

This way, the first nine nakshatras are placed in the first four signs from Aries to Cancer. Likewise, the next nine nakshatras from Magha to Jyeshtha are placed in the next four signs from Leo to Scorpio and the last nine nakshatras from Moola to Revati are placed in the last four signs from Sagittarius to Pisces. This way, the playground features all signs, nakshatras and their finer divisions within a range of 360 degrees.

Therefore, if Sun is transiting through Aries at a given point in time and within Aries, it is transiting through the second quarter of Ashwini, it is represented accordingly. For a native born during this time with Aries as his ascendant, exalted Sun is placed in the first house in second quarter of Ashwini nakshatra, which means in Taurus navamsha. If Mercury is transiting through Taurus and through the first quarter of Rohini, Mercury is placed in the second house in Taurus in Rohini and in Aries navamsha which rules the first quarter of Rohini. In the same way, all other planets are also assigned to their respective houses, signs, nakshatras and navamshas in a horoscope; based on their transitory positions at the time of birth of such native.

The finer study of astrology includes variables like nakshatras and navamshas and this is what makes it more complicated as well as more rewarding. Evidently, it is easier to deal with 12 signs only, than dealing with 27 nakshatras as well as with their 108 navamshas also, along with 12 signs. It looks like the study becomes 9 times difficult since we now have nine times more divisions. In reality, it is many times more difficult. For instance, the number of probable arrangements of 9 planets in 12 signs, in 12 houses is about 100 million. The number of probable arrangements of 9 planets in 27 nakshatras, in 12 houses is about a trillion and the number of probable arrangements of 9 planets in 108 navamshas, in 12 houses is about a million trillion.

A trillion is 1000 billion and a billion is 1000 million. It means the probable combinations are trillion times more when we include nakshatras and navamshas also. This is why some astrologers avoid this zone since it may become too much to handle; just in order to get that 10 to 20% extra. Now that we know the basics, let’s start with the main topic; which is the Ashwini nakshatra.

The literal meaning of the word Ashwini is ‘one who possesses horses’, ‘one who tames horses’ or ‘horse like’. Vedic astrology assigns the symbol of a horse’s head to Ashwini. Ashwini Kumaras are assigned as the ruling deities of this nakshatra. They are celestial twins and they are called the gods of medicine in Vedic mythology. They are often seen riding on horsebacks to go to people who need their help. Ashwini Kumaras possess characteristics like helpfulness, truthfulness, youthfulness, charm, elegance, extravagance and magical healing abilities. All these characteristics are relayed through Ashwini.

As can be seen, horses have close relationship with Ashwini. Horses are strong, muscular, swift, loyal, stubborn, nervous and sturdy creatures. All these characteristics find expression through Ashwini. Horses were used for travel. Hence Ashwini has liking for all types of travels. Ketu is the ruling planet of Ashwini. All four quarters of Ashwini fall in Aries. Characteristics of Ketu like new beginnings and initiatives are relayed through Ashwini. Mars and Aries add energy, fire, aggression, initiative, courage and impulsiveness to Ashwini.

The astrological or the karmic playground enclosing 360 degrees features a journey; the journey of karmas, the journey of planets, the journey of desires, the journey of good and evil; and the journey to liberation. This journey begins with the beginning of Aries or to be more specific; with the beginning of Ashwini. Therefore, Ashwini can be considered as that point in time when the mankind has just come into existence and it is trying to figure out the basic elements as well as the basic details which are necessary for survival.

The beginning stages are generally not complex and they are easy. It means what is actually needed is well defined. Ashwini represents all these characteristics. It means natives under strong influence of Ashwini are generally the most straight forward and clear type of natives among all native types. Just like the first humans knew what they wanted for survival and they aimed for such things without any pretences or diplomatic covers; Ashwini natives know what they want and they go for such things, in the most primal manner.

It means Ashwini natives may not believe in beating around the bush or making pretences. They may be outright in their approach and outspoken in their speech. This may look bad in the sense that they may often end up hurting other people. However, it is good in the sense that they are naive, innocent and clear like children or like the first humans. Therefore, Ashwini natives may look too straightforward at times; they are generally clean from within.

For example, if such natives don’t like a quality or an act of yours; they may say so right in your face. This may not only make them look offensive in some cases; it makes them honest also. Even when they like a quality or act of yours; they may give you the due credit. It means these natives may be trustworthy and they may prove valuable for you, if you are evolved enough to handle the good and the bad about you. A diplomatic friend on the other hand may keep praising you even when you are wrong. This practice of his reduces your chances of improving yourself; since he may always make you feel that everything about you is already good.

When the first humans were born, they had to depend on characteristics like vigour, bravery, courage, the ability to take risks, competitive spirit and other such characteristics in order to ensure their survivals. During those times, primal methods of hunting were used as nothing else was available and hence, these characteristics were most required for survival. Ashwini embraces all these characteristics and natives under strong influence of this nakshatra are generally loaded with courage, bravery, competitive spirit and other characteristics mentioned earlier. For them, the hunt is always on.

Hence Ashwini natives may be fit to achieve success in defence services of every type, various types of sports and competitions; sports which make use of horses like horse racing and polo; and other such sports or fields of profession where such characteristics are valued. Just like the first humans invented a number of new things and concepts for survival; Ashwini natives may be good at being pioneers in many spheres of life. They may take pride in new adventures, new journeys; new challenges and almost in anything new.

Ashwini natives may possess good healing abilities and they may engage in professions related to various types of healing, depending on their overall horoscopes. Hence these natives may heal people on various levels like on physical, mental, emotional and spiritual level. Therefore, natives under strong influence of Ashwini may practice as doctors of all types, consultants, therapists, psychiatrists, healers of various types, astrologers, tantrics, psychics, spiritual gurus and other likewise professionals.

Whether an Ashwini native may engage in physical healing or in spiritual healing, depends on his overall horoscope. Taking an example, suppose a combination of Sun and Mercury is placed in the sixth house of a horoscope in Aries; and both planets are placed in Ashwini. Suppose Saturn is placed in the eighth house in Gemini, Jupiter is placed in the fifth house in Pisces, Mars is placed in the fourth house in Aquarius, Moon is placed in the twelfth house in Libra and Venus is placed in the first house in Scorpio. In this case, the native may become a spiritual guru, if the rest of his horoscope and finer factors are supportive. The term ‘finer factors’ means the placements of various planets in various nakshatras and navamshas.

Taking another example, suppose a combination of Sun and Mercury is placed in the sixth house of a horoscope in Aries in Ashwini nakshatra. Suppose Mars is placed in the tenth house in Leo, exalted Jupiter is placed in the ninth house in Cancer, Saturn is placed in the fourth house in Aquarius, Moon is placed in the second house in Sagittarius and Venus is placed in the eighth house in Gemini. In this case, the native may become a doctor; if the rest of his horoscope and finer factors are supportive.

Since Ashwini falls in the sign of Aries which is the most energetic sign among all zodiac signs, it may bless the natives under its strong influence with loads of energy. Such energy may help them achieve success in defence services, various types of sports and in many other spheres. However, the same energy may often become too much for them to handle. As a result, Ashwini natives may come up as impulsive, adamant, impatient, stubborn and rash.

Such attributes are generally strong when Ashwini is rising in the ascendant or fiery planets like Sun, Mars and Ketu are placed in it. Sun gets exalted in Aries and within Aries also, Sun is the strongest in Ashwini. The same goes for Mars and Ketu also. Taking an example, if Mars is placed in the first house of a horoscope in Aries in Ashwini; the native may simply not be able to handle this much energy; unless there are strong balancing factors in his horoscope.

As a result, he may become impulsive, adamant, short-tempered, too competitive, rash and unstable. One such native may be good at initiating things but he may simply not be able to take them through to the end, in most cases; as he may lack patience required to do so. In personal life also, this combination of Ashwini and Mars may cause a number of problems since it may become difficult for anyone to live with a person exhibiting such characteristics. Apart from that, such Ashwini native may lack the necessary amount of patience and commitment, which are required to sustain relationships; especially a relationship like marriage.

Though Sun and Ketu may also prove troublesome in one such placement in Ashwini; Mars may prove the most difficult to handle in the first house in Aries in Ashwini, unless there are balancing factors in the horoscope. Many of the fearsome ideas associated with Manglik Dosh in the first house may come true when malefic Mars is placed in the first house of a horoscope in Aries and that too in Ashwini.

In general, Mars is partly benefic and partly malefic for horoscopes with Aries ascendant, since it rules the first and eighth house. The concept of planets exhibiting tendencies to be benefic or malefic on the basis of the houses they rule in a horoscope has been explained in the chapter ‘Gemstones for House Lords’ of the book ‘Gemstones – Magic or Science (Revised Edition)’.

Moving on with the current example, the energy may simply become too much to handle for the native and he may simply not be able to understand or value the feelings of his life partner. As a result, the marriage may break and the native may be the one to break the marriage as he may simply get impatient and he may feel the urgency to get out. Apart from remedies, Manglik Dosh formed by Mars in the first house in Aries in Ashwini can be managed, only with help of strong and benefic energies of planets like Jupiter, Venus, Moon and Saturn. It means all these planets can save the marriage of one such native and they all may do so in their own special ways.

For instance, if benefic Moon is placed in the second or fourth house of this horoscope, the emotional aspect may also become strong. In that case, the native may prove difficult to handle for most people; except for the ones he loves and cares for, due to the magic of Moon. Though he may still face problems related to relationships, many of these relationships may survive as the benefic energy of Moon may prevent the native from hurting the ones he loves as well as from moving away from them.

The same job can be done by benefic Saturn in the seventh, tenth or the eleventh house of this horoscope. These placements of Saturn may bless the native with patience due to which, the native may slow down considerably, making it easy for him to maintain relationships as well as achieve success in life. Likewise, other benefic planets can rectify such Manglik Dosh in their own special ways; only if such planets are benefic and placed in certain specific houses of one such horoscope.

Drawing a comparison; If Mars is placed in the third house of a horoscope in Aries in Ashwini, the results may change. Aquarius rises in the ascendant, it is a flexible sign and it is ruled by Saturn. Hence it may bless the native with patience and perseverance among other things. Mars rules the third and tenth house and it is placed in a favourable sign as well as in a favourable nakshatra. In this case, the native may not suffer from excessive energy of Mars; as much as he may suffer when such Mars is placed in the first house.

The first house of horoscope is the core of personality. Hence any planet or sign placed in this house tends to influence the entire personality of the native. Compared to this; the third house is more about profession, siblings, teammates, courage and initiatives. Hence Mars in Ashwini may prove useful in this house; as the native may use these qualities for achieving more growth in profession. Since Aquarius influences his personality a lot; such energy may not cause problems due to excess, in most cases. Characteristics of Aquarius may balance out unnecessary aggression and the native may benefit.

Moving on, Ashwini may render good sense of health, fitness and medicine to the natives under its strong influence. As a result, Ashwini natives may achieve success as fitness trainers, coaches, doctors, dieticians, physicians and other such professionals who deal in the sphere of health, fitness and medicine.

Though a nakshatra may try to render a number of characteristics to a native under its influence, not all the characteristics are likely to be forwarded to such native; due to planetary intervention. Likewise, Ashwini may try to render all the aforementioned characteristics to a native under its influence. However, the native may receive or use only those characteristics, which are allowed by the planet or planets placed in this nakshatra as well as by his overall horoscope. For example, If Mars is placed in the first house of a horoscope in Ashwini, the native may be brave, courageous and he may possess other such characteristics which can make him fit for defence services.

However, if Mars is placed in the eleventh house in Ashwini, the native may or may not be physically brave, depending on his overall horoscope. Such native may engage in business and he may have an aggressive approach or a brave and courageous approach in business. It means he may not be afraid of taking risks and he may feel comfortable taking on his competitors or rivals in business. Likewise, the characteristics exhibited by the native may be different than the ones originally meant by Ashwini, depending on the placement of Mars in it, in various houses of horoscope as well as on the overall horoscope.

Looking at another example, if benefic exalted Sun is placed in the first house in Aries in Ashwini, the characteristics like pioneer spirit, interest in the field of health, creativity and politics may become more prominent. As a result, the native may achieve success as a doctor who may be a pioneer and he may invent a number of new medicines or techniques for which he may hold patents. Depending on the overall horoscope, the same native with exalted Sun in the first house in Ashwini may engage in politics; and he may be known for his brave decisions, high competitive spirit and innovative ideas. Such native may become especially popular among youth and his career may be very dynamic, like that of a warrior.

However, if debilitated Saturn is placed in the first house in Aries in Ashwini; the results may change altogether. Most characteristics of Ashwini are opposite to those of Saturn and hence this combination may become a cause of concern for the native. Ashwini wants to run and Saturn wants to walk at a relaxed pace. Ashwini feels like exhibiting itself through impulsiveness, bravery and courage whereas Saturn wants to do the same through patience and wisdom. Ashwini wishes to explore new things whereas Saturn feels like consolidating the things which have already been explored.

Ashwini finds comfort in attempting more and more things though many of them may not be completed whereas Saturn doesn’t like attempting new things when old ones are incomplete. Saturn wants to complete one commitment and then move on to the next. Similarly, there are characteristic clashes between Ashwini and Saturn in many other domains. As a result, the native may neither receive what Ashwini wishes to give him, nor may he receive what Saturn wants to render to him. For this reason, Saturn finds its point of maximum debilitation in Ashwini within Aries, since the characteristics of these two are almost opposite.

This combination in itself results in stalemate in most cases and the net outcome is often decided with the help of the rest of the horoscope. For example; if Sun, Mars or Ketu is placed in the first house in Aries; the characteristics of Ashwini may prevail over those of Saturn. On the other hand, if Mars and Sun are weak in the horoscope and Mercury as well as Venus is strong; the characteristics of Saturn may have an edge over those of Ashwini.

In such case, the native may not feel prominent effect of Ashwini on his personality as well as in his lifestyle; as he may believe more in logic, diplomacy, balance and patience; instead of believing in impulses, instincts and bravery. A horoscope is a complex mechanism and it can feature billions of probabilities. Hence no tendency indicated by a single planet or nakshatra should be considered decisive, unless such tendency is supported by the rest of the horoscope.

Looking at another anomaly; if Ashwini rises in the ascendant of a horoscope, debilitated Mars is placed in the fourth house in Cancer and a combination of Saturn, Mercury and Venus is placed in the seventh, tenth or the eleventh house; the native may still not witness much effect of Ashwini. This is because the debilitation of Mars may weaken the ascendant due to which Ashwini may not be able to draw optimum amount of operational energy from it. At the same time, a combination of Saturn, Mercury and Venus in Libra, Capricorn or Aquarius may load the native with characteristics like patience, intellect, logic, diplomacy and other such characteristics. Since these characteristics are almost opposite to those of Ashwini, the native may not feel much impact of this nakshatra on his personality.

This brings us back to the basic and the most important principal of Vedic astrology, which is the overall theme of the horoscope as it is capable of changing anything and everything in a horoscope. Hence whenever the term ‘strong influence’ is used for a planet or nakshatra like Ashwini in this case; it means there are no strong opposing influences in one such horoscope and there may be influences supporting such planet or nakshatra. Therefore, if a native is under strong influence of Ashwini, it means the energy of Ashwini is strong in his horoscope, it is not counteracted by major planetary energies of opposite type and it may be supported by some planetary energies of same or similar type.

Ashwini exhibits a number of characteristics. However, different natives may embrace different characteristics, depending on placements of various planets in this nakshatra, as well as on their overall horoscopes. Looking at planets among navagraha; Sun, Mars, Jupiter and Ketu may perform very well in Ashwini, when supported by overall horoscope. Moon, Venus, Mercury and Rahu may perform well in Ashwini; when placed in favorable navamshas and supported by overall horoscope. Saturn is not comfortable with the energy of Ashwini. Placements of malefic planets in Ashwini may cause a number of problems for the native, depending on his overall horoscope.

Let’s look at performances of various planets in various navamshas of Ashwini. Looking at Aries navamsha; Sun, Mars and Ketu may be very strong here. Within the sign of Aries; they may be the strongest in this navamsha. Sun is exalted in Aries which is its sign of placement as well as nakshatra of placement. Sun is comfortable in Ashwini. Hence it may be the strongest here.

Mars is strong in the sign of Aries, it is very comfortable in Ashwini and it is strong in Aries navamsha. Hence Mars may be the strongest in this navamsha; within the sign of Aries. Ketu is strong in Aries and it rules Ashwini. Hence it may also be the strongest in this navamsha, within the sign of Aries.

It should be noted that Ketu is exalted in Scorpio navamsha of Bharani within the sign of Aries. However, it may still be stronger in Aries navamsha of Ashwini; since it is much more comfortable in Ashwini than in Bharani.

When a planet has different or opposing types of performances in its sign of placement versus its navamsha of placement; the sign of placement takes the lead. The third factor which influences this equation is the nakshatra of placement of such planet. To have an idea; the ratio may be about 70% for the sign, about 15% for the nakshatra and about 15% for the navamsha. It means that about 70% of the strength of a planet may be decided by its placement in a sign, about 15% of its strength may be determined by its placement in a nakshatra and about 15% may be determined by its placement in a navamsha.

Taking an example; Ketu has strong comfort in Ashwini. Hence it may perform well, even in Taurus navamsha of Ashwini, though it is debilitated in Taurus. Ketu is strong in Aries but it is weak in Taurus and it is very comfortable in Ashwini.

When Ketu is placed in Taurus navamsha of Ashwini, it may lose 15% due to navamsha placement but it may gain 15% due to nakshatra placement. Hence this navamsha placement may cause reduction in strength; only by a factor of 15%. When Ketu is placed in Aries navamsha of Ashwini nakshatra within the sign of Aries; it may gain because of all factors. This is because it is strong in the sign, nakshatra as well as in navamsha.

When it comes to Bharani; Ketu is not much comfortable in this nakshatra. Hence it may gain about 5% by virtue of its placement in this nakshatra. Within this nakshatra; when it is placed in Scorpio navamsha, it may gain 15% more. It means Ketu may gain 20% by virtue of its placement in nakshatra and navamsha; when placed in Scorpio navamsha of Bharani. Compared to this, it may gain 30% by virtue of its placement in Aries navamsha of Ashwini. Hence Ketu may be stronger in Aries navamsha of Ashwini, compared to its placement in Scorpio navamsha of Bharani.

Moving on with Aries navamsha; Jupiter may perform well here since it is strong in Aries. Mercury and Venus may perform on average here whereas Rahu may perform below average or on average in this navamsha. Moon may form Gandmool Dosh in this navamsha. Hence it may perform below average here. Saturn may deliver its worst performance here; among all 108 navamshas of 27 nakshatras. Among navagraha; Sun and Mars may be the strongest in this navamsha whereas Saturn may be the weakest.

Looking at Taurus navamsha; Sun and Mars may do well or very well here whereas Jupiter and Ketu may do well but not very well here. Ketu is debilitated in Taurus and Jupiter is not strong in this sign. Moon and Rahu are exalted in this navamsha. Hence Moon may perform well and Rahu may perform above average here. Venus and Mercury may perform above average here. Saturn may perform below average and not above that; since it is strong in Taurus but is not comfortable in Ashwini. Among navagraha; Sun and Mars may be the strongest in this navamsha whereas Saturn may be the weakest.

Looking at Gemini navamsha; Sun and Mars may perform well or very well here; depending on the overall horoscope. Jupiter and Ketu may perform well but not very well here since none of them is good in Gemini. Moon may perform on average or above average here. Venus may perform above average here whereas Rahu may perform on average in this navamsha. Mercury may perform above average here and within Ashwini; it may be the strongest in this navamsha. Saturn may do relatively well here though but it may still not perform above average.

Considering Cancer navamsha; Sun and Mars may perform well but not very well here. Both Sun and Mars are weak in Cancer. Jupiter may perform very well here and Ketu may perform well or very well; depending on the overall horoscope. Moon may perform well in this navamsha since it is strong in Cancer. Venus may perform on average or above average here. Mercury and Rahu may perform below average here whereas Saturn may perform poorly in this navamsha. Among navagraha; Moon and Jupiter may deliver best results in this navamsha of Ashwini.

Looking at professions, natives under strong influence of Ashwini may be seen practicing as army officers, police officers, naval officers, air force officers and other defence officers; sportsmen, doctors, actors, dancers, singers, musicians, writers, explorers, researchers, astrologers, tantrics, healers, psychics, fire fighters, pioneers in various fields; professional dealing in fitness industry, medical field, engineering field, information and technology, travel industry, pharmaceutical industry, professions related to horses, cars and especially the ones which run very fast, aviation industry and many other types of professionals; depending on their overall horoscopes.

Taking an example, if a benefic combination of Mars, Mercury and Rahu is placed in the tenth house of a horoscope in Aries and a couple of these planets are placed in Ashwini; the native may become an air force officer, provided the rest of his horoscope is supportive. Such native may be well recognized for his command over the fastest, the trickiest and the most dangerous moves in his field; and he may complete a number of important and dangerous missions for his country.
